If it was a huldura it is permanently affixed.

Correct, all of our 14.5" uppers or rifles have a muzzle device that is permanently affixed. We use the pin and weld method. If you look on the underside you can see the weld mark.

There ARE joint task forces that are composed of both federal and local cops. They specifically target gangs, drugs, and weapons.

Just have a pistol lower on it and don't play their BS games. It's not worth registering like a sex offender because your barrel is a couple inches shorter. What a joke. If you really choose to go that route, make it a trust.

I wouldn't bother with a true 14.5" barrel. Too much hassle for too little benefit. Either get the 14.5" with the permanent muzzle device or go with a much shorter barrel AND a new pistol lower.

If you want an SBR, just do the forms for trust or individual and buy/build one. Shoot it as a pistol until the stamp comes bacck. An AR pistol isn't as useful IMHO as the same barrel length with a shoulder thing that goes up.

I know that you fill out the caliber and barrel length on the forks ? What's the process for changing those? I think you send them a letter with what you did?

I'm kicking around the idea of a 9mm SBR with one of my 80% lowers but would like to still be able to switch to 5.56. Is that feasible?

If you retain the parts necessary to return it to its original configuration as registered on your Form 1/Form 4, you don't have to do anything. Just put the new barrel on. If you're going to make a permanent change and get rid of the barrel or upper, just write a letter to the NFA and notify them. You don't have to wait for a reply...just notify them and change the rifle however you want. You may eventually get a reply, but it may take up to two years and that reply isn't necessary to the process.

The private range that I shoot at 5-0 has been called on us numerous times... for what they called "Automatic Fire" HA! One of the young punk troopers looked at every AR to see if the selector switch was fully operational. After they went through what weapons were out in the open they started to head back to there bacon-moblies and 3 of us started to unload our 50 cals. It was a glorious sight to see them scury away holding there hands over there ears in defeat!!! If only I had that on video... I guess the moral of the story is be legit, know the laws and you'll be fine. Set it up as a "Trust" little more time, paperwork and money up front but if you plan on getting more SBRs, or DD etc. trusts are the only way to go. Also in the event of your death your weapon will be passed on legally, with miniumal work.

Hmmm...it still sounds like cops just doing their jobs. I missed the part of your post that explains why their actions makes them clowns and assbandits.

Maybe your post says more about you than about them?

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED."

Laws against fully automatic firearms are unconstitutional.

"Cops just doing their jobs" are enforcing an unconstitutional law. They have broken their oath to uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

They ARE NOT "just doing their jobs." They are enforcing laws created by tyrants.

What a joke.

I thought I was on a gun forum, apparently not.
