Has anyone used Pac-Nor for a replacement barrel? It looks like they are pretty backed up. Are there any other places I should be looking? I'd like to keep it under $300 since it's just going to get burned up quick.
I am looking at a 26" varmint weight barrel in 30-06. Everybody has them in 308 but nothing in 30-06 so it has to be custom.
most of the aftermarket barrel manufacturers are buried in orders. There is a
fellow named Jim Briggs out of Buffalo, MN doing business as Northland Shooters Supply.
You can see his stuff on SavageShooters.com here:

Don't email, it will take forever to get a reply.
Do a search for McGowen barrels on one of the search engines. There are a couple of
businesses selling their barrels and they may have something in stock.
If you talk to Ahlman's, they'll likely recommend a Douglas barrel.
Shilen, McGowen, Criterion, Pac-Nor, Lother Walther, Douglas, and others all make
Savage pre-fit barrels (finished, threaded if that's what you want). But given the
current demand its likely that all will be months behind in filling orders.
If you're in a hurry you might call Douglas and see how far behind they are in shipping
orders.
you might contact Stangfish and see if either of the 30/06 barrels he's selling are a
heavy contour:
