Whats your feed back on this gun, read a few reviews, looks to be a nice shooter. Dont have a gun that quite fills this position of accuracy and firepower as far as rounds down range (in a bolt gun that is).

The MVP in 308 is on my list of possible rifles for after the new year, want to see reviews on it before considering one though.

I own the Varmint version of this rifle (24" midweight barrel, target vs sporter stock) and I like it a lot. Out of the box the trigger is as good as any of the other "safety insert in the middle" adjustables that everyone bases on the Savage Accutrigger, the stock is a nice laminate of at least Boyd's quality and the ability to use AR15 magazines is certainly a plus. The bolt can be a bit rough out of the box but smooths out quickly within the first 200 rounds fired. Accuracy is good, I have only been shooting 55 grain ball ammo and seeing 1" groups at 100 yards prone off of a bipod.

The stock's length of pull is shorter than I expected but fits well, my wife who's 5'6" fell in love with the rifle the first time she got behind it and was ringing a gong out at 250 yards over and over. I would probably be just as happy with a 20" barrel <which is available in the otherwise exact same configuration>.

Good stick for the money!

Looks nifty but what is the purpose of having a larger magazine capacity with the smaller profile barrel that is more prone to stringing? Especially since, according to the linked review, the magazine seems to be the weak link.

The beauty of the feature is not being able to use high capacity magazines, it's that Mossberg came up with a way to equip a sub $500 rifle with a magazine well that accepts widely available and inexpensive standard pattern milspec/commercial detachable magazines. Just because you CAN put a 30 round magazine or 100 round drum under the rifle doesn't mean you're obligated to do so, but in a pinch it would work just fine.

I personally favor 20 NHMTG round straight body GI mags with my MVP Varmint which also happen to be a favorite with my White Oak/RRA service rifle AR15. In the varmint model weight really isn't a concern but anything longer than a 20 round magazine hangs below the bottom of the grip which I don't like. If I were using the overall trimmer predator version of the rifle I'd likely take only 5 or 10 round magazines in the field.

Consider that even buying a single 5 round magazine for a Savage Axis or model 111 Trophy Hunter is going to set you back $40 on a good day. If you wanted to configure a hinged floorplate Savage or Remington rifle with bottom metal to allow detachable magazines you're looking at $200+ plus at least $50 per magazine.

When are they planning on releasing a .308/7.62 version? I had not heard of this. I like my 5.56/.223 I have the 24' Bbl, but to my knowledge that is the only caliber it is available in.
Mine shoots better than I do and likes 52 to 55gr bullets the best. It really does not like 62gr Steel core at all. shoots all over the map. But I'm using XM855 Surplus.

Not sure on a street date, it's listed in their printed 2013 product catalog though I was disappointed to see it only offered in the 16.25" barrel "tactical" version which hasn't hit the market yet. I assume it's being launched to compete directly with the Ruger Gunsite Scout which is why they picked that configuration at launch.

This would be a mean bit of kit for the price if they put the .308 with a 20-22" medium profile fluted 1:10 twist barrel in the varmint stock and an 18" sporter profile version in the predator (field) stock... Not sure which magazine design they've settled on, I've heard anything from M1A to the Magpul .308's (and in some cases, both?!?).

The one thing I don't understand in the original version is why Mossberg went with the 5.56 NATO instead of a .223 Wylde chamber... not that out of the box accuracy is sub-standard as configured but I imagine the Wylde chamber could further improve on what it is already capable of without any added cost and the same level of ammo compatibility that the 5.56 NATO chamber offers.

The existing "predator" model would be interesting to see in a .300 AAC/6.8 SPC/6.5 Grendel chambering - in theory just a new barrel (threaded of course) & chamber, the rest of the rifle as already built.

Put one on layaway at my LGS. Going to get her out of jail today. Will be shooting this weekend. I'll post a report.

I can say from my fondling at the LGS the rifle feels solid, but not heavy. It's the 18.5" bbl. It feels like a great walkabout ranch rifle.

Oh, and my wife's gonna kill me. Hopefully I'll get to shoot it first.

I have had one since they came out. I am very happy with it. 1 in 9 twist matches my other 223s in the stable. Sub .5moa with pet loads. I like the versatilty of a rifle that uses the same mags I already have a bunch of. Being it likes the same loads I have already worked up and load is bonus.

Back from the fun store. Gonna give this sexy girl a bath. After the wife sees the bill, bolt is the only action I'm going to get until after deer season.

Vlad, you wouldn't mind sharing that load data, would you?

I would second that request, since this is the gun my brother is going to teach me to reload for.
