APF Amory?

Postby Jack's My dog on Mon Jul 14, 2014 2:04 pm

Arnzen is carrying APF Amory rifles which are out of Alex. MN. I was wondering if anybody has an experience with their AR's or other components? From what I can tell info is limited on their products. Would like to consider them for a future purchase, to support a local company if they do good work.

I just checked out the website, they seem to have fair prices. That is if they work... Unless anybody has any negative feedback on parts I may try a few. I would imagine he is getting parts from the same places as anybody else.

Actually they are a machine shop and have been making AR components for quite a long time.

Joe is correct. They make everything in house, except barrels and plastic parts and have been at it for quite a while. Their stuff is really nice. On one of my rifles I have their NiB BCG and their 15" rail system. I have one of their comps at my house that I'll be testing soon as well. I can post more later, but I gotta go

I could see them making hand guards etc but find it hard to believe the are making bolts and barrel extensions.

Like most manufacturers the barrels come in with the extensions already fitted. But they do make their own bolts, trigger groups, receivers and pretty much everything else. They are a large machine shop with 70 some CNC machines. Here is a video Hawkeye ordnance did taking a tour of the facility. The retail sales manager at APF is a good friend of mine (Jason in the video) so I have a pretty good perspective of what they do.

I am curious to see the video but don't see the link. Maybe it's because I'm viewing on my phone.

I imbedded the video so it might not show up on your phone. Here's a straight link http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=UUC7uN6EGodiic33jCvKo7KA&v=GEHZCZJ8nnA

I just got off the phone with sales. They seem like good guys. Most places won't even pick up the phone right now. I'll probably bring in a bunch of stuff to test out, we go through a fair amount of Ar parts testing our targets.

According to the video they do something like 95% of their own parts in the rifles they sell, the video showed them machining bolt carrier groups, trigger components, extruded forend tubes and even wire EDM finishing on the receiver halves (they mentioned working with both 80% blanks and cutting their own from stock).

They are good people, I've been shooting competitively with Jason for a couple years now and had a chance last spring to meet the owner and his family. They are a shooter run business and have also been sponsoring the MN matches, such as the Jeff Kirkwold Memorial 3gun Match and the Nordic Components Tactical Shotgun Championships.

I like the looks of their rail, and am in the market for one.
Trying to understand why they sell only the rail, or the rail plus accessories. Don't need the extra rail sections.
Am I missing something? Would I have to buy the rail, and the barrel nut/attachment bit separately?

Looks like they don't list the option to buy just the handguard with the barrel nut on the website yet. If that's what you want, just call into the store and I'm sure they will accommodate. I know when I bought mine at the Sauk Centre gun show this spring, they knocked a few bucks because I didn't want the end cap.

If you ever want to add any accessories though, the T-Mod system is the shiz. Way more user friendly than the Key-Mod and stuff locks down solid. I actually snapped some random pics when I threw mine together.

Here is a pic of the rifle as it sits. That's the 15.5 on a 16" barrel. What's slick is with the T-Mod system is I can pull the light, VFG and sling off in a matter of seconds and it goes from defensive rifle to a Tac-Lim rifle for 3-gun.

Even if bought with all the extra widgits, its still probably the least expensive rail I've seen.
Thanks for the pics, it looks like quality kit.
