Very interesting. If I didn't have a handful of nfa tax stamps and suppressors to buy this would be high on the list

I like it. I am think about buying one... The $2500 price tag I saw tells me I am not in the market in the next couple years.

Yea trust and 3-4 tax stamps do come to mind.

I've been hearing a street price of below 1500.00. Sounds doable to me... I might be interested in trying one in 6.5 possibly...?

A guy on AR15.com posted he ordered one that cost $1050.00 in 6.5CM. Have heard street price was going to be around $1100.00. Not sure why Ruger went with a 20 inch barrel for the 308. I emailed Ruger about custom orders because I wanted a 24 inch barrel on the 308. Replied "not at this time". Almost got a 6.5CM when I bought my Savage 10T but didn't want to reload another cartridge. Would have ordered the Ruger if they would have came out 3 weeks earlier. Having fun with the Savage though. Nice accurate rifle.

Since the MSRP on this rifle is $1399, I sure as heck hope nobody paid $2500. If they did, I hope it came with a 50 gallon drum of lube because they just took an elephant appendage up the tailpipe.

Are they worth the price? Are the components acceptable for hunting or is it strictly a bench gun?
I see that these are AR10 calibers - but the question remains - is this just a bench gun?

This isn't really designed as a benchrest gun at all. Would make a good factory F-Class rifle though. Would also make a good predator hunting rifle, though I'm partial to semi-auto's for that. This rifle is really modeled after the chassis systems being run in the PRS style matches, where a combination of accuracy and shootability are paramount. Personally from what I've seen, I think Ruger knocked it out of the park on this one. That's a lot of rifle for a tick over a G. And yes I want to buy one.

The two early articles I read quoted $2500 list price with optic... I'm assuming sub $1100 is sans optic. Nice to see that one can be had cheaper.

Frank Galli from SnipersHide was involved in the development of this rifle. They have done extensive testing on it since March out at RiflesOnly. There is a video about it over on SnipersHIde.
The concept behind the rifle was for both PRS style matches and for Law Enforcement sniping.
With respect to PRS competition, you simply are not going to be competitive with a .308 if the competition goes out beyond 600-800yds. Matches are dominated by 6mm-6.5mm options due to the higher BC and flatter trajectory. Because of that, there's no immediate need to cater to the long-barrel .308 155gr match crowd (IMO). This is why they immediately offered a 6.5CM option.
With respect to LE, there is no need for a longer barrel. In fact, 20" is the longest you want to go for LE sniping due to the requirements of LE snipers. Most LE shots are under 100yds, and most LE snipers train to shoot no longer than 300yds (mainly due to limitations of facilities and time). There is no need for anything longer than 20" at that range. LE guns are starting to get shorter and shorter, and there is a trend right now moving to 16" barreled rifles with 1:8"-1:10" twist barrels. The problem comes in with the load selection, since certain LE duty loads have minimum operating velocities.

Realistically, the differnce between 20" and 26" barrels in .308 is minimal with factory ammunition. Most factory loads only drop 30-50fps when dropped down to 20" barrels from the more conventional 26" length.

Correct. The Ruger was designed to be usable in PRS style matches. While the main benefit was that it allows the shooter to shoot in Production Class, the other benefit is that it allows an entry-level shooter/competitor to get into PRS matches without having to spend big bucks on a custom gun, and be able to compete in a class that they would fare much better as opposed to the classes with guys running $5k AI's and $6k customs.

Ruger is also hoping to reach the LE market with this rifle, as there is high demand for this level of modularity and precision at a more budget-friend price than an AI AT or DT SRSA1.

As the range reports start filtering in for this, it looks like Ruger has a real winner here. Sounds like it's a damn good rifle for the money. Put me on the "want" list.

The thread on Sniper's Hide forum about this rifle is awesome...so much great info. Demand is so high they are hard to get and prices are raising with demand. I would really like one in 6.5.
