To expand on Erud's question, and something to think about.

Do you have access to a place to shoot 1,000+ yards? Having a rifle capable of shooting bug holes at 2,000 yards is all well and good, but if you don't have a place to shoot it, or most of your shooting is under 1,000 yards, there are better (more recoil friendly) cartridges to be had.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Had a couple of back surgeries already. Still have the hardware in from the second surgery. Lowest 6 discs are fused. The 338LM I sold oldman was a sweet capable rifle I always wanted, but after a few shots, that recoil went right down my back. The savage 338LM I had before the RPR was brutal on the body. A bit lighter than the RPR. IF I do get another rifle, it would be for beyond 1000 yards but up to 1 mile. Have shot 308 and my past 338LM out to 1000 yards already with success. Still would like to try a 1 mile shot. Thats what the 338LM was for. This is still a whim, checking things out. May not do it at all with my back issues.

I've done a few long range shoots in the Platte, SD area over the past few years. The range below had targets from 400 to 1200 yards. I shot my Remington 700 in .308 Win at this range until it ran out of steam. There is a spot to the left ( out of the photo ) that you can shoot a mile (1600 meters). I shot a 50 BMG at the mile target.

If you get the opportunity to do so, I recommend practicing long range shots. For me, shooting these longer ranges at quasi-unknown distances was pretty humbling. For instance, with .308 I had my elevation turret cranked to its limit and (even a small amount of wind) at 800 yards sometimes held a wind hold that was at the edge of the reticle in order to hit the target...

Not interested in that caliber. Am currently researching the 280 AI oldman mentioned. Have plenty of time to research since there is no ammo/ reload components for pretty much any caliber at this time.

IF you decide to go the 280 AI route, I have 500 pieces of virgin 280 Winchester brass and Various Nosler projectiles to keep you busy for a while. May even find powder and primers if I look hard enough. (Trying to help and keep you shooting.)

Thanks Doug, will keep that in mind. I kept some H1000 after selling you what I had with that 338. Just 1lb. Have an ok stock of Large rifle match primers. Some regular large rifle primers too.

Warrlac, thats a nice picture. When I did 1000 yards with my 308 with 178 ELD-X, had to use the hash marks. Had a 20 MOA rail on my savage. A 30 MOA rail would work allot better for very long distance shooting. Plus a 34mm tube works awesome. Plenty of travel for long distance shooting with a 34mm tube. The Burris XTR II 34mm I sold with the RPR338LM had plenty of travel for long distance shooting.

I've shot at Harris and been trying to get up to Rush Lake range by New York mills. Very few 1000 yard ranges in Minnesota. Think these are the only 2, that I know of anyways.

Is that "gray state public shooting area" that I see on the Google or Bing maps? I can't find any other references to it - rules, fees, hours, nothing. Looking to move to SD before too long and I doubt I'll end up with enough land to shoot that far, so sure would be nice to have a place to go.

I make the Carbon Fiber bipod extension tube setups for Picatinny rails and possibly ARCA mounts if needed.
(Some of these pictures show 2 different bipods mouted at same time - this allows for better testing of product.)

Anybody recognize these rifles?

1&4 is a 50BMG, 2&3 is the 338LM I sold you. Right?

The eye candy brought tears. It went to a good home.
Had an itch that needed scratching talking about guns. Always wanted a semi auto 12 gauge. The 300 PRC is a whim, but the shotgun I just ordered is reality. Never owned a bull pup before. Going to have fun with this.
