Pistol Carbines

Anyone have one? Was never a fan until I saw they came out with a 10MM. Grabbed a ruger LC Carbine in 10MM yesterday. Was looking at the new S&W version but not in the stores yet. Didn't want a 40 S&W that I saw from other manufacturers but think with the 10MM, should provide enough powder for a good burn of the powder. Looks like more pistol calibers are out to. If you have one, post what you have. I got this one to compliment my RIA 1911 in 10MM.

I have a Beretta CX4 in .40 cal. It accepts my Beretta and Stoeger Cougar .40 cal pistol magazines. I have six 20 round mags and about a dozen 10 or 11 round mounds. I put a TRS-25 red dot on it. My firearm budget is very limited so it fits the bill for me. Many people don’t like them (PCC’s) because it’s not an AR or an AK. But like I said it fills my needs.

Think yours fit the definition. Always thought pistol ammo shot out of a 16 inch barrel was a waste. Now with larger calibers, things have changed. Am hoping anyways. Will find out when I get to the range.

I originally purchased a Keltec Sub 2000 gen 3 in 9mm from Sports men guide for a great price. As the addiction flared I bought the S&W PFC. I did look at the S&W Response in 9mm but I liked the shorter length of the Keltec and S&W folders. Many of the PCC tend to be AR length. I run both of mine in IDPA and the shorter length works really well when shooting around walls. I did look at the Ruger PCC but I was turned off by its weight.

Know what you mean about fitting the needs. As long as its a good shooter, who cares how much it costs. Get a kick out of folks spending thousands of dollars on a expensive firearm. I show up at the range and my cheap ones do just as good. What size barrel are you using on the 40 S&W? I did see some carbines made for the 40, which I am vested in pretty strong. Jumped back into 10MM a few years back buying a RIA 1911 in 10MM. Figured the extra case length for powder would be better shooting out of a 16 inch barrel. Will find out when I get to the range soon.

I love a good PCC. Been in that game for years, got a couple Uzi's, a couple AR's in 9mm, and a couple HK's. It seems like I'm forgetting one also...

The Uzi's are great and really quite accurate but heavy and not optics friendly, nor suppressor friendly. They don't get shot a lot any more.

The AR's are fun, I guess it is just one SBR with a couple uppers. The 10.5" Colt 635 clone is just so much fun and a handy size. With a red dot on the carry handle mount, super accurate and fast to shoot. It was so much fun, I got a shorter 5 or 6" upper for it with a 3-lug to shoot suppressed, and that is one of my favorite guns. It's quiet, fast, and accurate and with a flat top, very optics friendly and the superb ergonomics of an AR.

Then I finally got a couple HK clones, an SBR'ed 'k' and a full size MP5-style pistol. The SBR has almost edged out the short 9mm AR as my favorite -- much quieter with the roller lock vs blowback. But heavier trigger and not as optics friendly so it is still just iron sights while I figure out what optics I want to use for it. The full size, being a pistol, doesn't get shot a lot until I get around to SBR'ing it too.

I want a larger caliber, like .45 or 10mm, but for me it needs to be something not just blowback so it will work better with a can. I try to not be a "but it's quieter" snob, but really, there's a big difference between a can on a blowback gun vs the HK's. My friend has a .38/.357 lever action that is threaded and that is laughably quiet with the can on it. Even shooting .357's, the crack is in front of you so it still seems very quiet from the shooter's perspective.

I love PCC's. 9mm is the new .22!

I’ve got a couple.

To be contrary… I’m not saying they should be banned/restricted, just that they are not particularly necessary.

I’m not really that impressed with them- they are neither fish nor fowl. The two main uses I have for them are training for other weapons and gun games that require them. I’ve done some load test work on them- they are neither subsonics are essentially pistol performance (no big surprise) with accuracy that lags behind rifles- their ammo is just not as consistent. The practice use is essentially trying to do rifle practice at shorter ranges.

I will agree they suppress better than rifles (less supersonic gas to deal with.) but the reason they do is why they don’t work in a serious role as well.

I’m not quite getting the rationale behind a 10mm PCC over a 9x19 functionally. Hugely more expensive ammo and minimally better performance that still lacks even .223 performance…

There was a reason that militaries have moved away from the submachine gun for the most part. Yes, there are some very specialized uses, but those are not things civilians need to concern themselves about (you are not going to be clearing a defended building surreptitiously)… heck, I don’t see a police need for PCC’s/SMG’s. Short barreled assault rifles? Maybe.

Are they fun to shoot? Yes. That’s a reason to get one by itself- but as to a serious use, no.

If I had to defend the house, it would be rifle or shotgun. Hunting? The same.

Carry something “in case”… pistol.

PCC is just a fun range toy.

I have a 9mm Uzi but damn than thing is heavy, and a more than a little clunky. It looks cool thought, but I wanted something that I could train with and have a smaller caliber, but still be as close to an AR15 as possible as it's my favorite platform. I got one of those .22LR conversion kits which was close, but had differences with bolt closing and mag changes. Then I got a S&W M&P15-22 which almost fit the bill but it was still just a little different somehow (I can't remember specifically what it was)

Then I decided to look at 9mm AR's and looked at PSA, JP, Wilson, etc, and most of them were again... almost what I wanted, but didn't check everything on my list. Then I found the CMMG Banshee uppers which can use the Mean Arms Endomags. You take a Pmag and pull the guts out and slide in their conversion kit. Now everything is the same as a standard AR even the size of the magazines that fit perfectly in my mag pouches. LRBHO works flawlessly, and I can use any standard lower that I already have which means I don't have to buy another lower, can use any AR trigger I want, and I can use the BAD lever which was on my "gotta have" list. It is my favorite gun now and is the one I shoot most often.

It's an AR that I can shoot cheaply, and still be able to shoot steel at close range.
I highly recommend them as either a super fun range toy, or for training on AR platforms.

I've got a JP5 that is pretty darned awesome. Great trigger, super flat shooting, accurate, reliable, takes Glock mags. I've dabbled with it at some USPSA matches, but have not had much time for that in the last year or two. It is easily one of the funnest guns to shoot that I've ever owned.

Scratch, great point about using AR mags with 9mm CMMG, here is mine before the optic went on:

I do prefer the impulse of a 45acp, as 9mm feels like a .22

Those 2 pics look cool. Currently on the hunt for a red dot. Looking at an Sig Romeo 5 XDR. Have one on a 300 BO. Good optic. The threads on this LC is stupid. .578-28. Same as Hi Point rifles. Looking at this for now.

50 yards is my max for a red dot. My old eyes can’t see much further. Not much need for a pistol caliber beyond 100 yards. Maybe 150.
