Remington XR 100 Rangemaster

Postby Stradawhovious on Wed Jan 28, 2009 1:15 pm

Well, it's that time of year again, Uncle Sam has decided to give me back more of my money than expected, and with the "extra" I was thinking about getting one of these in .223.

Has anyone heard of any issues with this model? In researching and at first glance it seems to be a pretty gosh darned good rifle, and has everything I'm looking for in a step up rifle.

No but I am willing to help test it with you. You provide the rifle, I'll provide the beer. Just like the last trip...right?

ETA: Hang on, just to clarify, any alcoholic beverages are to be consumed after shooting, and when any firearms are unloaded, cased, and out of reach, and of course, not while driving. Don't want to offend any alarmists who might read this post and get the wrong idea.

They could have thunk up a better name. Sounds like a lawnmower.

No experiance with this format but, it is based on the XP-100 pistol action which I have shot. Very smooth action. Very accurate. I have a friend who swears by this set up for silloette shooting.

I Don't think "Remington" sounds anything like a lawnmower. :?

Should be an absolute tackdriver. One thing to consider is that with a 1\12 twist, you will not be able to stabilize any bullets heavier than 60 gr, and that will limit your effective range a little bit. That said, I think 400 yard hits on tiny creatures should be possible with a rifle like this. I hope you have some money left for a good piece of glass and Warne rings, it deserves that, and then some H322, V-max bullets.... It's a beautiful rifle with a great trigger right out of the box, go for it
I have a Colt Python and you don't so what do I care...

If my math is right, I should be able to spend as much on glass and rings as I did on the rifle :D :D

If you want to shoot heavier bullets in a Rem 223, then you have to look at the 700P with 1/9 twist. VTR but they are butt ugly and the last time Rem had factory ported bbls there were problems. XCR™ Compact Tactical. At one time the XP100 action was sought after to built BR guns, as it was a solid action with no cut out for the magazine.

If you want to consider Savages their guns can be had in 1/9 and 1/7 twist bbls for shooting heavier bullets.....
