Hey, check out this place, the shipping is free, therefore your problems are solved. I put one of the polyurethane, clear flexible plastic, in mine, made a big difference in noise and should lessen the metal on metal contact.

Take one 3" 1/4-20 nylon bolt with an unthreaded shank. Cut off the threads and head. Tap in, mark length, trim excess.
Paying $10 for a 10/22 bolt buffer is just plain silly. A foot of the "proper" material is about $12
