AccuPro 12 gauge patch jag - Houston, we have a problem.

Has anyone else tried these? Have they worked as advertised for you? This is probably the first time I've been let down by something Brownells has sold.

I have the 12 gauge version, and unless I am several bricks shy of a load, this thing is a piece of junk that looks like a diamond.

Got it, put it on the rod, put about a 2.5'' x 2.5'' patch on it, and it gets stuck right at the end of the barrel chamber, and I mean stuck solid. The instructions say you can chuck it up to a drill and file it down, so I did that. After way more filing than the instructions indicate you'd need to do, the thing still gets stuck in the same spot. Then after the apparent stress from being in a drill and the filing, the threaded area snaps because its made of the same soft metal as the jag.

Think I'll try for my whopping $10 back, and go back to using a 20 ga. brush as a patch jag.

Leaving me with the question, what do the rest of you use to run a patch through your shotgun barrels? I like a fairly tight fitting patch and jag so I feel like something is getting accomplished.

I use a brush and then a mop. One of those fuzzy things. I have never used a fitted jag for a shotgun

I really don't think you need a jag for a shotgun unless it's a rifled barrel. I was always under the impression that the jag was used to help clean out the rifling.

For a smooth bore try wrapping a patch around a bronze brush.

As others have said, there is no crown to worry about in a smooth bore shotgun.

Just get one of those fuzzy rods from Birchwood Casey. Five to ten strokes with one and the barrel will be shiney clean.

In probably about 15 years of shooting shotguns, I hadn't thought about using a jag for a shotgun either. But, me being the hopelessly spontaneous buyer when it comes to firearms, I saw it at Brownells and thought, what the heck I'll try it. Would be nicer than using the old 20 gauge brush as a patch jag (although that seems to work.)

Well, maybe they work well, maybe they don't. This one was no where near the size it needed to be for one.

Sometimes I guess you just aren't meant to improve upon something that doesn't work all that bad in the first place. Something about not fixing what isn't broken...

I prefer the bore snakes, quick and easy along with no storage problems, you could have them in the field or truck if you wanted.
