The action was really smooth and tight, the trigger was exceptional (although I think he said something about an aftermarket kit in it) and overall it was dead sexy to boot. It had a 5 round magazine, and apparently you can get 10 rounders as well, but the 5 rounders fit flush with the stock, and looked really nice.

I own several .22LR rifles, My 452 American never misses a trip to the range. I believe the 453 and 455 have the adjustable single set trigger.
No need to use a kit to tune that puppy.
When I am shooting for accuracy, I don't use a 5 or 10rd magazine, I use a homemade single shot adapter.

Safety? who uses that anyway?

I'm a Marlin .22 fan! My first rifle was the 981T and as much as I love it, it just doesn't get picked much anymore. I bought two older Glenfield 25's that I absolutely love to take in the woods. One with open sights, one with a scope! If I'm shooting targets, I grab all three. Anyways, I like older used .22's so I'm biased. Get what feels best, but don't over look a good used Marlin (or Glenfield)! :D

I like old Remington .22 bolt guns. Tack driving, cheap fun.

I'll backup 45Badger! I have some experience behind a few models in the 510-514 series and love them all! Amazingly accurate rifles! Almost bought a Rem 41 last summer, but I just had to pass it up. I have no doubts that rifle would've outshot me!

Since you like the 10/22 as well. here is my suggestion.

Buy a used basic 10/22 carbine. Buy a 16" fluted 920 barrel by Green Mountain. Buy a stock that works for you. Maybe a Revolution Tundra. You will have around 300 - 350 in it, and a dependable tack driver. Of course you need to scope it, but that's another thread.

That was my thinking as well (despite yer 1/4 moa 77/22 ;) ) ... that way, if it ain't all ya dreamed it could be, ya can still get a bolt-action, and end up how ya wanted, anyhow. Image

How many guns are out there that you can build like the 10/22? They have an aftermarket parts availability that is second to none.

That 77/22 is a great gun. I got lucky and got a great barrel. I received a 10yr old Marlin 25n bolt action that was never fired (NIB) did a trigger job on it, and that thing shoots surprisingly well too. Not like the 77/22, but respectable for a cheapy gun. The trigger is excellent - post trigger job.

My sons 10/22 with that green mountain barrel feeds and extracts everything without fail (thanks to a few Power Custom parts and polishing) and it keeps up with the 77/22 pretty well.

My CZ-452 Trainer is my favorite .22. It shoots like a laser. I did put a Rimfire Technology adjustable sear in mine and the pull is fantastic.

i'd go with the CZ 455 American. apparently there's a combo package available per the CZ-USA website. 22LR and 17HMR. that'd be a pretty decent investment IMHO. fun plinker, then when you're ready, 17HMR for some serious varmint shooting

plus, they have great looking stocks, and as said, the set-trigger
