keys to accuracy in the AR

buy a good barrel.
1/7 or 1/8 twist. length of barrel has no bearing on accuracy.

torque to the high end of the specs and shim the barrel

Buy a match trigger and free float hand guard.

Ok I agree but can't help myself...

Technically speaking, of 2 identical barrels with only the length differing, the shorter one will be more accurate.

Technically speaking, of 2 identical barrels with only the length differing, the shorter one will be more accurate.

Theoretically that's true, but with a pipsqueak of a cartridge like the .223, I doubt you'd see a quantifiable difference on paper.

I'm going with a Krieger 24" Varmatch barrel in 7.7 twist, with a JP Enhanced bolt.

By the way... I have a 24" DPMS SS bull barrel for sale with less than 500 rounds down it....

It's fluted, which equals accuracy.
Proven fact. I read it on the internets.

I own a custom Krieger, in an AR 10 in 6.5CM. Real tack driver. I also own a Lothar Walther in an AR 15 and would Very Strongly consider that in another .223 Wylde chamber. I had a JP cryogenic Super Match barrel but I got rid or it. (Never held groups nearly as tight/consistent as the 18" medium weight Lothar Walther). If I wanted to save a few dollars on another .223 chambered barrel I would definitely go the Lothar Walther rout again. If you feel you must through a little more money at it go with the Krieger. Bonus if you already have a JP .223 bolt, or they will sell you one with the barrel! (JP is the ONLY bolt Krieger will sell to you with their barrel, or you can send them yours and they will headspace it).

Haven't decided yet...
I think they offer 3 chamberings for that cartridge.

.223 Wylde
.223 Remington for 44-77 gr bullets
And 5.56 Match for loading longer than mag length, with bullets over 80 gr.

I like the idea of being able to load over mag length just in case I ever get to stretch it out and want a heavier bullet, but 99 percent of my shooting will be lightweight projectiles under 300 yards. I'll never shoot factory ammo through it, not sure if I ever have shot any 5.56 since I've had 2 presses before I even had an AR, so I don't need 5.56 or Wylde...?
My main goal with this rifle is super precise, accurate shots, taken prone on paper at 100-300 yards. That's it.

I'll get their opinion on Monday when I order it. Feel free to offer up any other opinions from the group.

There use to be a schematic showing the difference between the various 223 chambers, but I can't find it this morning.

The Wylde chamber is probably the best compromise and is what I've had my last 2 match barrels chambered for. I've also used the CLE Match chamber to good success, but as it's a tad bit tighter chamber it tended to be more finicky.
