I think you are right. I got the Kidd bolt and it is a thing of beauty and a great joy to behold. We'll see how the spring kit and new recoil rod work once I get the stock worked out.

Rodentman what does your original stock look like?
Do you plan to keep it??? Does it have sling swivels?

This is the original stock. I think it's a little different than the regular one, being it came with the 50th anniversary model. It has an interchangeable buttstock, the photo shows the "higher" one made for scope use. I have them both. It DOES come with swivels.

Once I get the new stock fitted, I have no use for this.

When you are ready to get rid of it let me know.
I don't want to drill holes in the stock of the one I picked up. But would like to shoot it for Appleseed.
The higher stock is nice on yours and extra nice that it has two so you can use a scope or not.
This one is a 50th so maybe it will fit.

I have fitted the new stock to the Ruger. I see no need to keep the old one. The new stock didn't ship with a screw so you'd need to source one of them. I also have a new Ruger "official" 10/22 case which won't accommodate the scoped rifle. If you are interested Sawgrass, send me a PM.

I've never owned a 22. In fact, the truth is that I've never even fired one until 6months ago. I never shot as a kid and when I was old enough and on my own, I found my way directly to handguns in defensive calibers. Fast forward to having my own daughter and deciding recently she was of age to begin shooting. She was 12 when we started. I rented a few handguns and rifles in 22. I had a tough time scrounging ammo. She recently began firing my 9" 300blk, which she handled deftly. All this to say that I've finally come to the conclusion about her first rifle. I'm going to buck the trend and go straight for an AR in 223/556. Ammo is widely available, the configurations/mods are endless and prices have come down dramatically (since sandy hook) on the hardware. Also, it's something that she can grow into and it will only become more useful as she gets older. So, I'm asking, how is my rationale here?

Get a dedicated .22LR upper for that AR and shoot all day for about 20 bucks.

The new stock shipped with a washer to add onto the screw but not the screw itself. I'm sure it's the same thread but the 50th anniv stock shipped with an allen head screw which is nice.

One of these will be nice too...

I am done with the project for now. I suspect someday I'll get a new .92 barrel but I am not in any hurry to do that. It's quite accurate but I know that need more practice. Also, the ammo makes a big difference. I made it for fun, not competition, and fun it is indeed. The Ruger 25 round mag works fine as does the Kidd bolt. I'm very happy with it.

The 22 rimfire world is a fun place to play. I like them a lot and decided every good red-blooded American needs a 10/22. I have an International, which is their Mannlicher stock. It is now modified. Had the barrel worked on by Que, put in a Kidd drop in trigger kit, Kidd bolt and bolt buffer and did the bolt release mod myself. I also did a lot of work inside the stock so that the barrel only touches it for the first several inches. It was always reliable and shot okay stock, but is now crazy accurate.

Was it worth it? I got an enormous amount of satisfaction tinkering with this rifle. It is fun going to the range and having guys tell me how inaccurate Mannlicher stocked rifles are, then having it shoot into a 1/2" or less at 50 yards. A Marlin is a better shooter out of the box, but you can't tune and modify it like you can the a Ruger. A friend has a Kidd Supergrade rifle and it is the auto loader equivalent of his Anschutz. Just a different way to get a very nice rifle.
