With the recent interest in deer rifles, I thought it'd be interesting to see how the groups of calibers shake out.
I'm sure more than a few folks'll take exception with how I grouped 'em.
I listed the pistol calibers fer guys who like 'em in rifles so-chambered ... obviously, there's more pistol calibers not otherwise typically available in such rifles.
I actually grouped the calibers before writing this ... this is how the groups ended up ...
".30-06" - step below the magnums, .30+ but not big thumpers
".30-30" - lever, but not the big thumpers
"slugs" - and the big thumpers
".270" - long-action (standard) sub-.30, but not the magnums
"magnums" - duh
"light" - not by any means "light" fer deer ... more than adequate, actually ... jest lighter than most everything 'sept the ".30-30" group
"pistol-caliber" - why not?
I've never shot a .25-06, so I'm not sure how they handle ... I'd expect somewhat light recoil, depending on the load, 'course ... but it seemed right to put it where I did.
