What does everyone shoot?

Postby rucker on Thu Jul 26, 2007 7:45 am

Since, well forever, I have been using my Beretta AL390 Silver Mallard for everything; goose/duck/pheasant hunting, sporting clays, and trap. It's the only shotgun I have and I love it. For some reason though I have always wanted a Browning BPS in 12GA. I have no real reason to buy it other than for the novelty value. I always ask if they have a used one when I am at Cabelas and they just laugh at me, last time I asked the guy said "going to be hunting some pterodactyls?"

i have a winchester 1400 that i've had since 1976. this is my "chase the birds" shotgun.
i have a winchester super-x trap that i've had since 1980. only shoots clay.
i have a mossberg 20 ga. bolt action w/ magazine that i've had since 1970. first gun i ever bought and shot. don't use it anymore, just sentimental to me.
i have a winchester model 94 that was given to me in 1989 by a church member. it belonged to her deceased husband who was a 2x state champion trap shooter in illinois. i have never shot it and never will. it will always be "Ed's shotgun".

That's a nice collection! The Mossberg 20ga bolt action is a classic, my grandpa had one that got passed on to my dad. It was the first shotgun I used, the first shotgun my younger cousin used, and in a few years another cousin will be ready to get started with it :)

I have yet to buy my first, but I'm pretty much settled on the Remington 870 Express. Seems to be a solid platform and a good value.

What I'd really like is the 870 Marine Magnum, but it's about twice the price. We'll see...

I have a bps 10 gauge. They are nice, but not quiet if you want to chamber a round "stealthly".

12GA Super Black Eagle II ($20 raffel ticket at DU)
12GA Winchester 1300
10GA Browning BPS

I want a good home defense Mosberg 500 or 870 all setup the right way.

I like the 870. It's probably the single most popular shotgun ever sold.

However, I think the Mossberg 500 does have a couple things going for it.
o They come drilled and tapped if you should ever want to mount optics
o usually slightly cheaper
o The tang safety is
- ambidextrous
- quieter
- safer because you aren't fiddling around near the trigger trying to find it
o something else I can't remember

The plastic tang safety on the 500 is the one thing I don't like about the gun, but you make some pretty good points.

If you buy an older one it will be metal. Or, I'm pretty sure you can replace it, too.

Hey guys...

I use a Winchester Select Energy Sporting for my target gun. I have been using a Verona LX501 12ga for pheasant hunting. I won this shotgun at a banquet. I use a 20ga Rem 1100 Special Field for grouse. I have two Mossberg 835s, one the original model when they introduced the 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge and also a 20 inch Grand Slam I use for turkey hunting. I also have an old Rem 870, and also a Rem M29. And a very old 10ga side by side muzzleloader of an unknown make and model. I can't find any markings on that gun at all.

Budsgunshop.comhad them for sale pretty cheap as they have been replaced by a newer model that is all black.I would try there as they have some really sweet deals and bills north only charges $25 for ffl transfer. But if you print off the pic and price and go to gander mountain they will match the price plus $30 ffl fee.
