Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag (and a Rifled Slug Barrel); suits pretty much every hunting need from small game to geese to deer. Chambers 3 1/2" magnum loads.

For the "home defense" shottty I've got the Winchester 1300 "Defender" model with an add on barrel shroud and the telescoping/pistol grip stock. Also added the side-saddle shell holder. This one isn't the "stealthy" build... I'm looking more for the "OhdarnIbrokeintothewronghouseseeyalaterbye!" effect. One of the other things I like about this particular shotgun is that it flawlessly feeds the Aquila Mini-Shotshells.

I have a DU Remington 870 Wingmaster (1st one I ever bought)
870 Express 12 ga 3" Synthetic Stock (Waterfowl and Bambi's Dad sometimes) Great for rain mud and the muck!
Browning Gold Upland edition (english stock and shorter barrel)

I have two shotguns.

First is my 12 gauge Mossberg 500 with both 18.5" and 28" barrels. It is currently setup for HD duty but dam can that thing kill clay with the 28" barrel. I do like the top safety.

Second is my 1930 SXS 12 gauge Western Arms Corp (Ithica sub company) with 28" barrels and top mount safety. I use it for upland bird hunting and it is a beauty. It just feels good. Note: With the full choke barrel it shoots a nice 18" pattern at 40 yards with OO buck! :o

Shotguns are fun!

However, I think the Mossberg 500 does have a couple things going for it.
o They come drilled and tapped if you should ever want to mount optics
o usually slightly cheaper
o The tang safety is
- ambidextrous
- quieter
- safer because you aren't fiddling around near the trigger trying to find it

o something else I can't remember

The plastic tang safety on the 500 is the one thing I don't like about the gun, but you make some pretty good points.

You can get a metal safety replacement for about $10.
Isnt there something about the location of the slide release on the 870.

These mini shells may come into play in the mag capacity area of gun control issues.

Do the math how ......many shotguns would be high cap "assault" guns using these shells as the standard to measure mag capacity?

scary

Since the original question was what do I shoot and not what do I have, well I do own, have owned, do own many, but bascially only shoot two.

I am a Benelli fan, that being good or bad, I don't care. I have a Benelli M1 12 ga that I use for clays and pheasant, also the same thing in a 20 ga for grouse. These Benelli's fit my snap shooting style 100%, where others didn't fit or work, period.

Ahhhhh Shotguns!

For Waterfowl it's my Beretta AL390 Silver Mallard 12 ga. (black syn)
For Clays and Pheasant it's my Browning Citori Classic Lightning Feather Grade II/III 12 ga.
For Grouse it's my Browning BPS Upland Special 20 ga.

I do not have a defensive/tactical shotgun yet. I'm sure that it'll be a 870 Rem or 500 Moss when I get around to it.

The Rem870 slide release is in front of the trigger guard, the Moss500 is behind it. IDK if there is any particular advantage to either. You don't have to change your grip on the stock of the Moss500 to release the slide. Maybe that is a plus.
