Presumin' ya ain't gonna drive all over creation, I'd guess ya'll be somewhat limited to what's on the shelf wherever ya do go. I'd stop by Fleet Farm in Oakdale, at the least. Joes at Rice/36 ... if it's on the way.

I'd guess any 130gr'd be good.

I've found some "premium" ammo tends to group a bit tighter. Maybe a box 'er two of some cheap stuff, and a box 'er two of some "premium" stuff ... shoot 'n see what ya see ... then go back and buy more of what ya like ... try to get the same lot#, particularly if ya don't go back to shoot more.

If I may suggest not using ballistic tipped hunting rounds. I used the Hornady 130gr Interbond last year. Nice little hole where the bullet went in. A hole about the size of a football on the other side. The whole sholder was taken out and was hanging on by a few strands of hide. Lots of wasted meat. It did its job on the inside. Heart and lungs were gone and she dropped right in her tracks.

This year I am shooting Federal Fusion 130gr. Out of a Ruger M77 MKII its about a 1" group at 100 yards not shooting from a rest.

Way too windy today to determine too much ... waste of money on "premium" stuff. Stick with the cheap stuff fer today ... the 50yd at Oakdale might not be too windy ... I'd zero there ... 'bout 1.5in high ... then check elevation at 100yd and/or 200yd, but don't adjust windage ... go back to the 50yd, if ya think ya need to adjust windage.

... good day to make note of wind-drift, though! ;) ... 25mph s/b 'bout 2in @100yd and 0.5in @50yd ... 8in @200yd! ... if it's a direct crosswind, 'course.

When I had a .270, I had same bad experience with 130 gr Nolser Ballistic Tips. Made a flipping mess of Bambi. The classic bambi-whacker in .270 is a 130 grain bullet, but I had great results with cheap Federal 150 gr jacketed soft points.

My .270 also prefers 150gr. Never could get 130's to fly as good, the 150's are tack drivers. At one time Hornady made a round nose and the craxy gun shot them better than anything else, but they have long stopped making the bullet.

I ended up buying 3 boxes of hornady "superformance" sst I got a box of 130 140 and 150. I decided ill see which shoots best and stick with it. Oh and my friend ended up not making it so we never went now were hoping to make it Monday or tuesday. If he can't figure something out ill be heading there alone I guess.

I have the same XL7 setup. I guess I'm a believer in shooting cheap and shooting often. My accuracy issues I believe are more on my own shoulders, rather than the gun or ammo. I'm trying to get the gun settled in with 130 grain with either Remington, Winchester, or Federal. I'm getting within 2" groups, 3" high at 100 yards. The 130's ballistics serve the 270 well, if you can get them to shoot decently for you.

130 grain Fusion ammo shoots really well out of my .270 and has had great performance on a few large-bodied bucks.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

My Remington Model 700 in .270 shoots the Remington Core Lokt really well, and they are about the cheapest around.

It also shoots the Superformance SSTs EXTREMELY well. 300 yards about 5" spread, and I can guarantee I could have been steadier.

i bought two boxes of Remington CoreLoct (sp?), 130 and 150 grain. the 150gr worked well for me last week, but that was my first time shooting my 270. the 130gr wasn't as tight of groups though

Well ill most likely be able to report how it goes by Wednesday. I still have to sight in my scope too so I got a lot of shooting to do. Now my sister wants to come with so I'm probably gonna end up sighting her 30-30 in for her as well cause I sold it to her in 09 and I didn't sight it snce probably 06 or 07 so I'm sure its overdue I might even put some new glass on it cause th scope is a cheapo tasco from 1999 or so it was a package deal and my first rifle so I didn't care as long as I had a gun like my dads....

I can tell you that I will never use Federal Power-Shok again. Last fall I had a bullet completely come apart upon hitting the shoulder blade of a deer. I did get the deer but it suffered a slow painful death, and we found bullet fragments all over the carcass. Get a bonded bullet, saving $10 isn't worth the potential downside.
