Best way to swap out longer barrel on AR15?

Postby Tutmos on Thu Feb 28, 2008 4:50 pm

Perhaps I should have given this a different title. I'm a relative newbie so forgive my ignorance. I've currently got a Bushmaster AR15 M4, It sounded like a really nice idea to have a second upper and long barrel, 20 or 24" that I could quickly swap out if I decided I would like a more accurate long range gun or just better projectile velocity. The upper / longer barrel combinations from Bushmaster are about the same price as a complete gun. Is there a better way to go about this or a better source I should be looking to?

Thanks in advance.

Rock River Arms has some very reasonably priced uppers. I've been very happy with their Wilson stainless barreled upper I have from them.

Check out DPMS or Brownell's websites. Both have numerous uppers that should fit.

If you want accuracy, go for a noveske or something similar.

That sounds like a pretty good idea although I'd find it pretty hard to believe anyone only put 50 rounds through an AR15, a revolver maybe, but something with a 30+ round magazine?

Nope only went to the range one time about enough to get a scope sighted in and a little bit of playing, Now some of the other toys have a few more rounds thru them besides ammo is getting expensive.

Speaking of Duh! When I went in and looked at the rifle I looked down and read Bushmaster on the side of the magwell the magwell is part of the lower  The upper is actually a DPMS.
I will probably put up a couple of pics later anyway. Sorry
