What would you build?

This will be a milled receiver gun.

Just curious, why a milled receiver?

Because I'm not a fan of stamped sheetmetal, or AK's for that matter - so I'm going to see what one I made turns out like and don't want to see it as a waste of time when done. ;)

Standard mil-spec rifle. I dn't know what else you would with an AK. Or you could build a AK sniper rifle like Red Jacket did on TV

There's oodles of different makes of AK though - some people get all hot in the shorts over certain ones, and won't spend $400 on others. As a "it's an AK <yawn> guy", I'm asking what would you do to make a good one?

There is one common denominator over the ones people get excited about; they all have milled receivers: so that, combined with the fact I own two working mills, is why I'm looking to make one. I have no need for a "spray and pray" wiggly trunnion stamped lower gun, so I won't bother with that.

Well, if you come up with a sturdier receiver for the PSL, that would be cool. They never had a milled receiver for them, though, so you will have to invent.

I was kicking around the idea of trying to build a AK and have been looking around and came to the conclusion that after buying a good kit, receiver--it really wasn't worth it. Seems like the desirable kits aren't cheap anymore and I could buy one from a reputable builder for about my parts cost +$100.

If you looking to build something that would be coveted by somebody other than yourself, best bet is to find a numbers matching with original barrel kit designed for a milled receiver. Seems like anything non-Century is starting to fetch a premium price.

Don't know if you have to sign up at the "The AK Forum" to search the classified section. Buy they seem to have many premium builds going thru there just to give you a idea--maybe. If you figure something out and want to build two, I'm a excellent brow mopper beer fetching sorta guy.

I've seen the stamped receiver being made and it's almost laughable - you could make one with a dremel if you print the template and glue it to the metal.

The PSL looks interesting.

Does anyone know of a print for the regular stamped receiver trunnion?

Call NODAK-SPUD and see what Mitch has to say.

Those "red-Jacket" folks are interesting.

Stamped all the way. No reason to put in tighter tolerances, it defeats the purpose of the AK weapon system.

This morning they had around 60 in stock, they now have 47. I've been contemplating building one for some time now, I might have to pull the trigger.
