I don't have any experience with the 516, but it's a piston-driven AR, and that's a platform you're either interested in or not. I can't compare SIG's version to anyone else's because I've never handled one.

The 556 and 551 are very different from the 516, and any AR, however. I bought the 551 because I wanted the original Swiss configuration. It compares favorably to the 556 in that the finish is much more durable, and the stock is solid as hell, unlike the crappy, rattly stock that comes on most 556s. The 556 has a few advantages over the 551, however, that I think most shooters in the U.S. will appreciate. It uses regular, good 'ol AR15 magazines, which are so common and cheap you practically trip over them around here. The 551 uses a proprietary Swiss magazine, which is harder to find, more expensive, and only work in one rifle. It is a fantastic magazine, but there are those drawbacks.

The 551 also is not set up to be a ninja rifle. There is one top rail, on the receiver only, suitable for an optic but no room for anything else, and no side rails. You can get a rail system for it, but why bother? If you need that, then the 556, which comes with one, is by far the better choice. Just be prepared to put a different stock on it, and deal with all the paint being chipped away around the ejection port, and you're golden. SIG does sell a "classic" version of the 556, however, so if you like the classic forend and don't need rails, that's a nice "in-between" compromise that gets you that old-school look with AR15 magazine compatibility. I really like that rifle, but I'm thinking of selling mine since the 551 sort of takes its place now.

This would be the first! Really, the only reason I bought the 556 Classic was to get as close to the original 551 as I could. Now that you can get a 551 without spending $10,000, it's redundant. I suppose it would make me lose a little cred though...

I have the classic 556... What say you about the Stg58 Styer made Fal?

I haven't gotten into FALs enough to really be able to speak intelligently about the different manufacturers and variants. The one I have is an excellent rifle, and I'd love to have something Belgian and in an old configuration with a wooden stock and forend. The FALO version would be cool, too. Pretty much everything Steyr makes is great, so I don't know how you can go wrong with theirs.

I really need to dig out my other EBR's and get a picture. Right now I only have 2 of my AR's.
Not that any of them are special, but I don't have pics of them.

Which cost more on that one, the EOTech sight or the gun? Seriously I went on a shopping trip to look at red dots, and those things are pricey (XPS2 was 479$, their combo was 1200$). Or is there a better option at a cheaper price that still holds 0 as well?

I got a smoking deal on the dot. I bought it used but I don't think it ever left the guys safe. Hell I had the dot before the gun was half built.

Take a look at the Lucid red dot in dtapper2's picture just above TH3180's. It's a very nice optic for the money. Some of them even come with free magnifiers. Less than $300.

I purchased that Lucid from a member on here a while back. One of the turrets was broken(seller didn't disclose that...) but Lucid gladly and promptly replaced the entire optic free of charge! Great optic for the price, magnifier is awesome.
