Dedicated .22 AR build

Postby photogpat on Tue Apr 24, 2012 2:23 pm

Alright, so the bin of spare AR parts in the man room plus a spare lower I picked up -- coupled with the fact that I shot one last week, makes me want my own dedicated .22 AR rifle. I want it as a plinker and AR trainer for the wife, kiddies and un-initiated.

Anyone done a .22 build before...anyone got any pointers? No conversion kits on a standard AR...I want to have a stand-alone .22 AR.

The giggle factor for me shooting one last week was pretty uncontrollable - it jumped past a few other items to the top of the "want" list.

So the CMMG uppers on MidwayUSA for example...those take fairly standard mags and perform pretty well? Just a standard complete lower mated to one of those and I'm rocking?

Yeah, I got a cmmg upper and 4 cmmg mags....no issues after roughly 5k rounds. keep it clean and it will treat you well. when they get dirtier they tend to have ftf and stovepipes...

I bought a 15-22 and duracoated it, and right now its magpul flat dark earth with FDE magpul MOE stock, grip and MBUS sights, Ive ordered FDE troy battle rail covers ), a bushnell trs-25 , a riser for the sight and a spikes tactical mock silencer (http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/spi ... -p-43.html) and a gear sector FDE handstop, so its basically going to look like

Its a nice rifle and dressing...but I want to do a dedicated one with aluminum lower/upper...and something that could potentially supply spare parts to other AR's.

I am contemplating one of these too, but with a Nordic upper. I have heard good things about the nc22.
