Smith and Wesson M&P15...

Postby PHATSPEED7x on Tue Jul 17, 2012 10:19 am

Gonna be getting another AR-15 rifle next month and want some fees back from owners of this type of black rifle. I do have experience with the AR-15. First black rifle was a Double Star Star-15 rifle 20" barrel that I bought used and tricked out. But sold it last year to a police officer who was impressed with it during a range session. Figured he needed a good patrol rifle since his department didn't issue them.

Budget is $1000.

Thoughts?

Might wanna consider setting your budget at $800 for the gun, and $200 for a replacement trigger? :ugeek:

Any interest in "building"?! Image

No personal experience with one, but have heard lots of great reports at the S&W forum. I own a Bushmaster and love it, I'm sure the S&W will serve you just as well.

For $1000, I'd get a Colt 6930 every time. I would stay away from Bushaster. S&W is about as far down the quality scale as I'd even consider for a rifle like that.

Not interested in Colt... cousin had one fail him in Iraq and was almost killed because of it.

Also mil-spec is so over rated.

Not really interested in building at the moment. Just want to have one in the inventory just in case...

Imagine what would happen to a bushmaster over there!

What exactly would happen? The only negative comments I seem to read about Bushmaster are from those who've never handled one, the owners seem to like them just fine. :D

Zombies eh?!

So you're comparing a rifle that's probably been in service for 10 years and not maintained that great to something only you might use?

I'm very, very happy with my Sig Sauer M400. Not a single problem and even used it to shoot a CMP "Service Rifle Clinic" and scored pretty well.

If you can't trust a Colt AR-15 then you need to start looking for a whole different rifle. I would suggest looking into Stag Arms they make great quality stuff and at an even better price. Like others have said, Stay away from Bushmaster they are not what they used to be at all. Since the big AR-15 boom their QC stepped aside to their profits. I have also heard DPMS is starting to steer away from a good QC.

Colt is over rated and over priced. Colts are junk IMHO.

Colt just LOST the military contract to Remington AKA Bushmaster and or DPMS.

Contracts go to the lowest bidder. Nothing more.

However owning and following the TDP for decades means something.
