Opinions on Savage M11

Postby cyclerider06 on Sun Sep 30, 2012 9:23 pm

My dad and were talking a new gun for deer hunting and we came across a Savage M11. Does anyone have any experience with them? Pros and Cons? For the price it seems like a good gun. Thanks for any feedback.

No different than any other Savage Model 10. It should have a synthetic stock and blued metal. I have a couple of them and like them. Generally thought of as good values for the price.

I have a Model 110, very similar to the 11 and I'm a big fan of these rifles. They aren't necessarily the "best" rifle out there but for a very reasonably priced rifle, you get the best (in my view) stock trigger available in the AccuTrigger and excellent potential accuracy.

The things that are lower quality than many other rifles are the bluing (very thin on my example), the "iron" sights (plastic), the plastic trigger guard, the very plain (and ugly) stock, and the inexpensive polish job on the bolt. I wouldn't let any of these deter me from buying one of these rifles. They all contribute to the low comparative cost of the rifle but don't really have much of an effect on performance. I've shot a few deer with mine and wouldn't trade it for any rifle of equivalent cost. It's a great platform for high quality (or low for that matter) glass and is very reliable.

I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to buy one new and would take it over any closely priced competitor.
