Saiga recoil solutions?

Postby CarRacer on Tue Oct 02, 2012 6:25 pm

I shot 90 rounds through my converted 7.62 Saiga last night and this is what my shoulder looked like today.

It didn't hurt when I was shooting and I was only wearing a tshirt but I don't think it should look like I got beat up the next day. I fired more rounds in a single sitting through an AR before and my shoulder only had a very small red mark or two. I don't think I'll be able to "get used" to the Saiga beating me up like this.

Am I just experiencing the normal amount of recoil for the 7.62 or is the butt stock I used in my conversion a bit rougher than than the magpul stuff on shoulders?

That's about what my shoulder looked like after shooting 40 rounds through my Saiga 7.62x51.

Put a brake on it. It will help immensely. 8-)

Oh boy, physics jokes. That reminds me, I need to go read today's XKCD.

So it sounds that that's just the way it is. Appreciate the feedback and I feel better knowing the answer instead of wondering. Thanks.

I sold it, my new bolt gun doesn't do that to my shoulder.

AK-74 style break cuts down the recoil in a hurry. Kinda directs the noise back at you though.

You would have no problems with a good break on it....

Get rid of the wussy behind the buttstock?

J/K

A brake would be your best bet. You could try finding a softer butt pad or maybe use a slip on one for a stop-gap solution. Basically, .308 class ammo is gonna thump ya a little unless you load it with slow burning powder or shoot a heavy gun.
