PSA blem lowers

Postby Scratch on Wed Nov 21, 2012 6:57 pm

Has anyone here got any of their blem lowers? I'm wondering what they look like. I see in the reviews most of the people have no problem with them, but I'd like to hear from someone besides the reviews they post on their website.

And before you all tell me not to order from PSA... I know they don't have the best reputation as far as speediness and trying to get a hold of them, but I've ordered from them before, yes I had to wait a lot longer than they told me, but was still happy in the long run.

I just left Thunderjohn's after filling out the paperwork for mine (I get delayed) and I couldn't really tell on the blem I ordered. It had some handling marks but nothing worse than what I usually incur when putting mine together. The finish seemed very even and nothing that stuck out like a sore thumb.

Nothing I saw would discourage me from ordering one again.

Not exactly what your asking but i have ordered half a dozen of their "blem" upper receivers and i had a hard time finding anything wrong with them. A small nick here or there and an uneven finish on the inside of the receiver is all i could find. It's really hard to beat the price for what you are getting.

Not necessarily. I have 3 PSA blem lowers and can't find anything wrong with them, but some of their blem lowers do in fact have minor blemishes (scratches/dings/etc.) PSA does guarantee that these lowers with still be 100% functional aside from cosmetic blemishes. I've been extremely happy with the ones I have and wouldn't hesitate to order more.

ETA-Here's a picture of one of mine in progress right now:

According to UPS, I should have mine on Tuesday so I'll let you know then. I've never ordered lowers from PSA before, but after reading reviews and doing some research I wouldn't be suprised if snlit is right. Seems most folks can't find any imperfections and as a company how many blem recievers would you get before finding someone else to do your anodizing. PSA has sold thousands of these blem recievers.

Honestly not very many, maybe a handful. Just wanted to point out that some of them do have noticable blemishes so somebody isn't surprised if they get one that does. I saw a couple pictures a few weeks ago that had a little gouge on the right side of the magwell (of course now I can't remember where I saw it, go figure). I think you are correct though that a lot of them that they sell as blems are just sold that way to boost sales, the last two I bought even had consecutive serial numbers.

"Blemish" has a number of different meanings and not all of them relate to damage. With a different brand of lower I was able to compare a "blem" receiver to a "normal" one. I did not see any damage to the "blem" model but if one let the light hit them just right the blem had a slightly different and uneven shade to it. I have seen much more expensive items rejected for less difference so have to believe this is probably the "defect" causing the classification in some of the PSA examples. In other products I have often bought blems and the difference from non-blemished appears non-existant. Some, such as Hornady bullets, are production overruns which are then sold afterward as "blems." Being from different lot runs they have some minor differences but not enough to worry about for the most part.

Could be something dumb like the detent spring hole is out of tolerance due to a stuck chip. You'd need a print and some pin gages to find the "flaw."

My noveske n4 gen 2 "chainsaw" (their blem name) had a chipped cutter in the mag well, and the forging wasn't lined up perfect to clean up the trigger guard ID profile. Nothing you'd notice if you weren't specifically seeking out flaws.
