Russian AK at Fleet Farm

Postby walstien on Sun Jan 20, 2013 10:05 am

Y'all know which one I'm talking about - the converted Saiga with pistol grip in 7.62x39. What model is it? Does it take regualar AK accessories? I'm not much of an AK guy. Where can I get more info about it?
When I see five weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy.

Siagas take most of the same accessories after being converted. Depending on the conversion, they may have a different hand guard. I know you are a member over at ARFCOM and they have a Russian AK section with lots of info. The Siagas are some of the best AK pattern rifles in production.

The basic ones need a saiga specific mag. Easily curable condition, just check on legality issues before doing it. Not sure about the conversions at FF. I believe they're made at the Izhmash factory, so quality is way up there, at least on the parts that don't get swapped once in the U.S.

Saigas are very fun and the Ishmash ones are one of the nicest examples of the AK family. They kick pretty hard though considering the caliber and they don't readily accept muzzle devices to help with that.

Owning one is pretty badass and once you strip one down you see why they can run for forever with sand caked in their guts.

I have owned two Saigas in my time, one of them was the standard rifle stock model, the other was converted to AK style and modified to take AK mags. I loved the rifle, my only problem with it was that the mags were a little tight. Other than that, the rifles were great.

If it's already converted, it should accept standard AK mags/grips/stocks. I'm not sure about the handguard - depends on the conversion.

Personally, I'd buy one as it is and leave it stock. Just get mags and ammo. Maybe, maybe get something to set up optics on it.

But.... i already have two AKs. One is very barebones lightweight (for an AK) and the other I've kinda let go into the "tacticool" world with an Aimpoint and flashlight.

They had a dozen of these at Brooklyn Park FF as of about noon on 1/24. The description of them includes "modified magwell"

This appears to be the exact same gun:
