There are videos if you're interested. I couldn't decide so I built an AK and have one of our upper 545 is a fun round.

IIRC, Dave has over 4000 rounds through one of their Huldras without cleaning.

Isn't the bulk of 5.45 available corrosive? That sounds like a bad idea to me.

Correct, the bulk Russian surplus is corrosive and was the whole point of the test. We wanted to push our rifle to the limits and see when and how long it would take before stoppages and to know how our finishes and products held up to real use. Much like every auto company runs engines with out oil etc we wanted some real performance of the rifle so we got one, degreased it of any lube and started shooting. We also documented the journey via youtube through a series of videos. Long story short, no we don't recommend this, we recommend using good quality and amounts of lubrication as well as cleaning when shooting corrosive ammunition. We got just over 4800 rounds, no cleaning or lube, before our first stoppages which were caused by carbon and build up in the bolt carrier causing the firing pin to drag. We did a complete strip, detail inspection and clean and found no signs of corrosion or rust. We then shot it some more and have since put several more thousand rounds through it. We are waiting for the barrel to burn out and see how long that takes.
For guys that have our rifles or uppers I recomend cleaning the bore and upper with a quick spray of solvent, bore snake, and remove and wipe down the piston components. Its super easy and fast and takes less then 5 minutes when I shoot my personal 545, when I shoot our beater then I don't care .
Thanks
Dave
