Ok... the next week & a half I was haunted by her... she was all I could think about... I went back, & found her... now she is mine...
#1 black powder Remington Rolling Block, customized as a bench gun, likely in the 40's or 50's... incredible wood, with a high roll over cheek piece & a fat beaver tail fore arm... it was barreled in a 1.25" X 23.5" heavy barrel chambered in 225 Winchester, & had several of the action parts replaced with smokeless #5 parts, & the action was tight, & the trigger reworked to a light crisp pull with no over travel... besides being a bit hesitant of the high pressure 225 Winchester cartridge in a black powder action ( without fully knowing what all was done to keep it safe ), the barrel was probably worn to the point the accuracy was likely just starting to go... so it's getting rebarreled with a 1.25 X 26 - 27" Shilen 1 in 10" twist 8mm Match barrel & chambered in 32-40... the scope bases on the original barrel were cheesy aluminum 3/8" 22 rim fire bases, & the incredible stock is shaped for a scope so I'll be putting on a Leatherwood Malcolm external adjust 6X scope with vernier adjust rear base...
my goal is to build an "old School" rolling block capable of MOA at 100, 200, & 300 yards for informal shooting on my personal range...
anyone shoot these fine old rifles, or black powder conversion cartridges off the bench ???
heres a couple pics of how she looked when I found her...
