Looking a finally getting and AR

Postby rugershooter6823 on Mon Nov 11, 2013 9:34 am

Im looking at getting and AR in the next few weeks. Ive been saving up and i have $1000 to spend. Wondering what people on this site would recommend. I would like to be able to easily modify the rifle in the future. I have shot a few Ar's any where from stock dpms to custom built ones. Im very comfortable with stock but naturally i love the custom ones. So later modification is a must. Thanks in advance for any help. Also no against buying used if any one has good deals.

DPMS Oracle would be a good start, great off the shelf and like any AR, can be upgraded as you go to your liking. Would leave you with a lot of cash left over for ammo and some upgrades as well.

To me, that's a great place to begin so you can have a gun to shoot and upgrade it where YOU feel it needs upgrades - maybe you won't change a thing, maybe you'll eventually change everything, but you can always sell the parts you no longer need.

Id check out PSA too, deals to be had if you keep a eye out. I have a almost complete gun (minus barrel, handgaurd and gas block) for 380 bucks. Could easily be under a 600 dollar gun if I wanted it to be. Just to figure out what I want to do with it now. :(

Colt 6920. I'd stay away from the price-point consumer-brand firearms like DPMS, Bushmaster, RRA. At around $1100, the 6920 is probably best quality for $$. Also consider Daniel Defense, Bravo Company, Noveske. They'll be more$$ but will, on the whole (along with Colt) be better and more reliable rifles.

Don't know if you can wait, but with Black Friday coming up... There will be some deals out there. You could easily put together a fine rifle for under 600.00 or less if you wait for some deals. All ARs are easy to upgrade to stuff you like at any time.

PSA for decent quality at budget cost. Colt LE6920 if you want a step up in proven performance for a few more bucks.

Here is an excellent deal:

I'm surprised that this thread is a few hours old and nobody has asked.
"what purpose will the rifle serve?" How much use will it get?
Range plinker? Home defense? Hunting? Competition? Mall ninja?

Yeah, that.

It will be used mostly for just shooting around the farm. Will use for hunting occasionally. Not home defense. And possibly 3 gun.

If it's just plinking around the farm and such, any consumer grade DPMS or Bushmaster on a black friday sale would be fine. But if you are looking to do competition then for a little over a grand you could get into a milspec rifle like Bravo Company that will probably have some tighter quality control or fit/finish. Get a flat top upper receiver so you have the coice of mounting iron sights or optics or a scope.

If you want to build, I would go talk to the boys and atomic tactical or element arms. You can tell them what you want and your budget and I am sure they will accommodate.
