Just picked this up tonight with my overtime money... Not bad for $499 from my local dealer. Read some good thing about these online.

I got my Howa about a year ago, also in .308 win. I picked up the targetmaster combo which has the 20'' heavy barrel and the upgraded scope. Nice rifle and accurate too. I got my first deer with it last fall, 1 shot.

My deer hunting handload for for my rifle is the 180 gr Hornady SST pushed by Varget, I have shot 5 into half an inch at 100 yards.

Howa 1500=very accurate bang for the buck.
3/4" 5-shots groups with a 20" bull barreled Howa .308 over sandbags at 100 yards with good ammo is not uncommon.

I picked up a 1500 in .270 with the green overmold about a year ago.

The Nikko scopes they come with are decent for the money also, but I upgraded to a Bushnell elite 3-9x40mm. Extremely accurate gun for the money. The actions are built like tanks on these. The new trigger design is nice also.

In case you are not aware of it, Legacy Sports International, the Howa importer, sells magazine conversion kits and magazines for the 1500.

And if you really want to reach out there they also sell a 20 MOA scope mount rail made by EGW.

I'm well aware of magazine conversion kits. Will be ordering one soon.

Currently spent all my extra cash on my AR15 Build.... stay tune for a build thread...

I picked up the target master package also. Love the gun. Wish I could find the magazines a little cheaper.

Looks nice. How do these stack up to say tikka or Savage? Can you post the weight? Am looking for a real good bolt 308 for under $1000 that has a ten round magazine. Don't know anything about howa. Appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Howa makes a very good rifle. They are made in the same Japaneses factory as the Weatherby Vanguard rifles. Very accurate rifles for the money. With optic, and bi-pod my rifle is just over 10lbs. The factory weight with the factory optic was just over 9lbs.
