Who has a VZ 58/2008

Just wondering if anyone has one of the VZ58/2008 and what you think of it. It seems like you can still find some surplus guns and accessories kits for good prices. I personally like the fact that they are a little different and less common, but my only experience is looking at them through the inter-webs.

I'm in AZ shooting with Armoredman this winter so I thought of the CZ site first.

EDIT: Should have added shooting his VZ

Great gun, milled receiver, lightweight, bolt holds open on last round. Mag release is a bit weird as the left side of the trigger guard is relieved for it, not sure if that would be an issue for a left handed user. Safety is on the right side, but is easy to manipulate as you come up to fire. Mags were difficult to find, but have started flowing in again and are ~$20, they are not compatible with AK mags. Sights are typical AK style. No easy way to install optics if that's your thing, there are a number of options for replacing the hand-guard for doing so. Trigger is decent, no slap, on the heavy side but smooth. For the money, I think they are a better buy than an AK.

I like them, though they heat up really fast. Light and easy to point. They have a 5.56 variant out now too.

Who has a VZ 58/2008

Just got one, and had some range fun this morning. My old eyes don't do so well with iron sights but it shot well considering surplus ammo. A little high at 50yds and 5" group and a little low and 12" group at a hundred. Much of that was not seeing well, not taking time, and the welt on my cheek at the jawbone from the shaft of the folding stock. Ouch.

It shot well enough I'll get a front grip with rails and put a red dot on it. Surplus ammo is cheapish and available. I'm sure I'll shoot it better with sights I can see.

Two fail to feed, both were when the (different) mag had two rounds left. Three fail to fire that were ok second time through.

This will be a fun shooter. I'll be looking for more ammo soon!

Fleet Farm has been carrying these for a few weeks, at least the CAI versions. They were on sale with all the kit including 5 mags on sale for $509 or something close to that. I would really like one, but right now there is barely enough room in the stable for another, and I think I need something to shoot 3 gun with. If I could justify another plinker I would already have it.

I stopped in at FF and looked at it a few weeks ago. It was $559 with one mag, no other goodies.

I jumped on the PSA deal. Happy Father's Day!

It finally shipped this morning, two weeks to get it processed and out the door. But for 20% cheaper than the next closest competitor I am not complaining...

I finally got around to picking it up from my FFL.

I haven't shot it yet but after initial inspection I am very impressed with this thing for $400. The US milled receiver seems to be high quality. After I tore it down and lubed it, the action is much smother than I expected it to be.

The only cons I have is the mill surp mag pouch has a torn belt loop and the safety ergos seem to be backwards to my expectations.
