SKSs around the Twin Cities

Postby santo on Sun Apr 13, 2014 2:52 pm

Anyone aware of a store or dealer in the area who has a decent deal on these old rifles? I realize "decent" is highly subjective. All those I've seen at shows are in aftermarket stocks.
Any info is appreciated.

SKS's at dealers are hit and miss. I see them fairly frequently at the Frontiersman, and at the Gunstop.
Good luck!

What does "In the area" mean to you? MnGunTalk covers a lot of ground.

Judging by the subject line I believe santo is referring to the Minneapolis - St. Paul netro area.

Last time I was in Frontiersman, none. The time before that, zip. I asked the guy with the ponytail (Karl I think), all he could recommend is keep checking in every few weeks.

Translation: Go through an FFL and hope for a decent internet purchase off Gunbroker

After further review of the subject line, I think you might be on to something.
In the future I will try to keep up.

I saw one at Cabela's in Rogers not too long ago in nice condition and at a not so bad price. Gander Mountain had 2 of them as well in their used guns area. One Paratrooper and one normal SKS.

For the past half year, I've been chasing my tail around the cities. Using my newly acquired 03FFL, I just ordered one up off of classicfirearms.com. Sure it'll need to be de-Cosmo'd, and the furniture worked over, but that is part of the fun!

I'll start a different thread next weekend with pics as not to sidetrack this one for OP

I've bought 2 at Frontiersman in the past few years, a Russian and a Romanian. Both are good shooters

It wasn't too long ago when one could pick up an unissued Yugoslavian SKS from Fleet Farm for under $200. Ah, I miss those days...
