DPMS AR-15 lower in stainless

Postby cobb on Sun Feb 15, 2015 9:11 pm

My brother picked up a brand new DPMS stripped lower in stainless steel.
It is a DPMS lower and per DPMS the lower was manufactured in 2004.
It is stainless, coated black, which I think would distract from it's value if a person was looking for a stainless brush finish that was offered at the time by DPMS.

So does anyone have any knowledge of these?
My brother bought it for what he thought was a fair price and because he thought it was unusual.
It is stamped with a 4 digit serial number and ending in an "S".
Also stamped that it was manufactured in Becker, so early production?

Any thoughts?

I don't know much about them, but as I recall they were only made for a few years as they didn't sell very well. I have a friend who bought one on closeout years ago for around $50-$75. They are heavy, and would make an excellent foundation for a heavy varmint or match rifle.
I will never apologize for being an American.

I always thought a stainless upper and lower would look real nice with the walnut stock options out there...

The stainless lower my brother already has some type of black finish. Supposedly came that way from DPMS, but that I am not sure.

From what I remember, they sold them in a set, stainless upper and lower. Most I thought were raw stainless/finished as it offered a different look, however they offered an option of a Teflon type of finish on their stainless products. I had a DCM stainless barrel finished with the same way back when.

The upper/lower and I think the rifle(s) that used those parts flopped as they were heavier and the fashion market wasn't what they thought. The market was busy at that time around the sunset of the AWB and they were trying some off the shelf ideas to gain in the market. I cant remember when they moved to St. Cloud but it was mid 2000s sometime. You would have to find the right buyer for it to have anymore value than another lower. Most will just buy a forged lower as function it offers the same at a lighter weight and lower cost.
