'-06,
I will definitely keep you in mind. We could meet at Oakdale Gun Club as I have a membership there or elsewhere at your choosing. Would like to try the 270 version as I have shot the 300 extensively, see below. Note: the 270 and 300 versions have a slightly shorter case than the 7mm version which allows for better load density. I would be shooting 180-190 grain versions of VLD design projectiles for best BC and hopefully long range capability. I have a 7mm-08 (120-140), 280 Remington )140-150), and a 7mm Rem Mag (160-175) to play with also.
I've loaded the 300WSM for a friend in both 150 and 180 Nosler Partitions and Ballistic Tips. I tried multiple different powders for the 180's settling on WIN760 for best ES, SD, and accuracy (3011, 3012, 3012, 3013, 3012 fps final result with near max powder selection). This was for a Tikka lightweight rifle = beat me up while testing. Neighbor uses it extensively for hunting around the world, Red Stag in New Zealand, Caribou in Quebec Canada, Elk in Colorado, Mule Deer and Antelope in Wyoming, plus for whitetail around here. He mixed up the ammo while in Quebec and accidentally used the 150's for caribou at 225 yards - said the large bull took two steps and dropped, no exit would. I had originally loaded the 150's for him to use for target shooting, antelope, whitetails, or for larger varmints.
Did the load testing (many different rounds) and reloaded 89 rounds for him for free, as he had loaned me a 18,000 pound trailer for moving my shop equipment from Minnesota and brought his fork truck over to unload and place in final location for me - for free. Really nice guy, really NICE wife, and good friends that let me use their land for testing my 50's at distance (although I did destroy his steel targets at 550 yards). I need to purchase new targets for his range.
I'm in no hurry for shooting the 270 as I am currently focusing on my last 50BMG shoot of this year in Alliance Nebraska. I need to do well there as I shot extremely poorly in Michigan finishing in last place, something I haven't done in a long time. Many factors were involved that destroyed my groupings but end result was = I shot poorly and I need to re-focus ME.
