Anybody here replaced a dust cover on an AR-15 ?

Postby bluto on Sat Apr 02, 2016 3:30 pm

Got me a new cover but don't have anything to get that tiny c-washer off so looking for a tool that you have used that worked or if anybody in st.paul that can help out.

Thanks.

EDIT: Got a new c clip from ace hardware and got it installed... :D

Thanks ghost.

Thanks but getting it back on seems easy enough, my issue is getting the current one off and I tried my needle nose pliers and not even close to being small enough.

I guess I'll have to go buy a tool small enough and hope I don't shoot the clamp across the room when I do get it off..

Thanks for the help though.

Thanks.

The guy used tweezers and a small screwdriver. You could use two small screwdrivers. What tool are you going to buy?

Or since you have needle nose spread the tips and push the clip off.

Some tweezers like the one the guy in the last video had, hopefully that and my little needlenose pliers will do.

EDIT: I tried the NN pliers but it's so damn small to work on.

EDIT 2: Found smaller NN pliers and got it off...woo hoo !!

EDIT 3 : Well sure as ****, I just shot the tiny c-washer across the room when trying to put it back on.... :x

Hence the term "JESUS Clip" as in where in JESUS Christ did that clip go?

I do not understand the need for a dust cover on a consumer owned or even a law enforcement AR in a state such as MN.

I understand the need in a military situation in an arid climate, harsh environment or the like.

Even for a law enforcement AR that will spend the majority of it's time in an arms room rack or in a patrol car I do not see the need.

If it was needed would we not see issues with the myriad of semi-autos in use over the years such as the BAR, 10-22, M1 Garand, M14, mini-14...?

Why did Stoner fit the AR with a dust cover? Previous military arms went without.

So do those tend to blow completely off on firing, or do they melt and leave a sticky mess in/on the flash hider?

(Edit: I don't even own an AR, so this question is pure curiosity; I am most certainly NOT looking to buy them.) :)
