10/22 optics help for precision target shooting

I recently purchased a Kidd Premium Supergrade rifle and the options for optics are overwhelming. I am wanting to do some accurate paper punching at 25 to 100 yards. I would appreciate any recommendations for optics including brands, magnification and types of reticles.

I am currently using a Nikon EFR 3-9x40 and it is nice, but my old eyes are struggling with it at 100 yards.

I bought a 10/22 target model a couple years back. In my research for a good scope I found lots of recommendations for a Mueller Eradicator 8.5-25x50. I don't have a ton of experience with scopes to know whether this is spectacular for its price or just a good value but it seems like a good one to check out...

I have been extremely satisfied with this Mueller 4.5 x 14 - 20 APV.

If it's just for target shooting I would go with a fixed high magnification. Weaver T-Series is popular and I've had good luck with Sightron in the past that also makes an offering in their SII line.

Reticles are really personal preference and partially determined by what targets you will be shooting at. Personally I would lean toward fine crosshair as it doesn't obstruct the target, but realistically an 1/8 moa dot isn't going to hide much at 100 yards.

Mueller APV and Weaver T Series seem to be favorites among bench rest target shooters.

Leupold VX6 all the way. The glass is amazing on the VX6 line! Made in the USA too.

If you are on a budget the VX2 line is a good value, still made in the USA too. The VX2 glass is good, you don't really need the 30-34mm tubes that the VX6 line has anyway. I have a couple 3-12 VX2's and the are awesome scopes for the money. I also have a few lower power VX2's that have been great. My VX6 just rolled in yesterday and hasn't been mounted yet.

If you want to go cheaper yet the Redfield line is good. I have a few 2-7 power Redfields that are on AR15 test uppers. They get pounded pretty hard and I have never had a problem. Leupold has an equivalent line as well. They are pretty clear but the VX2 is a lot better, also a lot more money. Redfield may still have some imported models on the shelves. I only have the made in USA line, I'm not sure how good the imports are but they are being dropped for Leupolds line.

I ordered through the custom shop so I'm not sure if this is standard but I got the T-MOA. The scope is a 4-24 with a 34mm tube, tall target knobs and a black ring instead of the gold ring(more like a MK4), my MK4's have TMR which is similar in appearance. These are for long range rigs mostly. They should have a fine duplex or fine cross hair with a dot for target shooting. Leupold also has a line of fixed power target scopes. These would be a lot less money than a VX6 but I have not looked at them.

You are welcome to swing by the shop and check some of the scopes out.

While I shoot a Nightforce 12x42x56 Benchrest on my 50 BMG Target Rifle, it would be a bit of overkill for your needs. I know several people the shoot Sightron's and absolutely Love their glass. I have a scope called an Osprey 10x40x50 that I picked up on sale from Dvor.com and for the money, it is very hard to top. It is currently specifically utilized as my backup scope, but I love the clarity of the glass, considering it's price. It also has illuminated Reticle and Lifetime Warranty (Important when utilized on a 50). I paid less than $200 on sale.

I plan on putting a Nightforce scope on my .308 rifle, but like you said "it would be a bit of overkill" for my 10/22. Leaning towards a Leupold or Vortex now. Vortex offers a 10% discount to prior service and active duty military.

I've got a Sightron SII 4-16 on one and the other has a somewhat unidentified Bushnell 6-18 that I got at an auction dirt cheap. It was broke when I got it, sent it in and the repaired it for free. I think it's the precursor to the Trophy line. 6-18x40, adjustable objective, resettable target turrets and pretty good glass. Made in Japan.

I had a Mueller APV on my Savage Mark II TR and can't imagine needing anything more, at least in a rimfire application. Terrific optics, AO, and seemed quite well built. Wish I had kept both the scope and the rifle!

I ended up buying a Vortex Crossfire II 6-24 X 50 with the V plex retical. Sighted it in and can shoot dime size groups at 50 yards. Need to get it outside to see how it does shooting out to 100 yards and beyond.
