Sub 2000 canted sight

Postby leeak47 on Fri Jan 13, 2017 12:32 am

I recently pick up a sub 2000 gen. 2 took it out to the range and had to adjust the the post all the way to the left side just to hit the center. So my questions is. Does anyone have this problem on theirs sub 2000 ? And if do how did you fix it ? Or know a gunsmith around the saint paul/ maplewood area that can fix the front sight ?

I've been thinking of getting one. Kind of a neat concept. Which caliber and magazine brand did you get? What is your opinion of it other than the sight alignment?

I suspect the front sight is not mounted to the barrel vertical. As I understand the new front sights are Loctited and a set screw is used to lock it. Gen 1 Sub 2000's are know to have the front sight loosen.

Most any gunsmith should be able to correct it. Or, return it to KelTec to repair.

I picked up a KetTec Sub 2000 M&P 9 mm at the Rochester show this weekend. Shot it, and only needed to move the windage two clicks. Moved the elevation 1-1/2 turns to raise it up to zero. No malfunctions in about 20 rounds to zero the sights. Used Winchester White Box 115 gr. Plan to use 147 gr Federals later.

My front sight does not have a set-screw to lock it in place. It has a locknut on the barrel to lock it in place. (In addition to the thread protector on the end.)

The trigger is really long, rough, and heavy. I see M Carbo makes replacements for the stock plastic trigger and heavy springs. May try those. They say it drops the pull from 10 stock to 6 pounds.

I found that my old soft sided briefcase fits the Sub 2000, M&P 9 mm pistol, several magazines and spare ammo nicely. Need to make a stiff backing and find some foam to cradle them in the briefcase. The briefcase should disguise them well. A little heavy with the 100 rounds of ammo.

The Sub2000 isn't my kinda firearm, but I see why it would appeal to folks. For those that are interested, there's a red dot optics mount that is either canted or flips to the side (can't remember), so it can remain in place and zeroed while folded up and stored. I don't remember the manufacturer but google will. I think that a small Burris fast fire style RMR would be great for this. I've seen them in 40 with a Glock mag advertised on armslist lately for $399, as opposed to the outrageous price of $5-600 that we've all seen.
