shells for a benelli m1

Postby Amazi on Sun May 14, 2017 7:35 pm

Just picked up an m1 today and I was seeing that there ammo picky? does that sound right? I was looking at the sellier & bellot 2-3/4 00 buck. Some were saying they don't cycle good. Basically bang for buck is what I'm looking for. This is my first semi auto shotgun.

Best bet is to buy a few boxes of everything and see for yourself. There may be known varieties that don't work great, but ymmv.

What purpose are you looking for? Just defense, or clays and hunting as well?

mainly plink, possibly hunt. After I get better shooting maybe try a 3 gun but I need more practice before I consider that.

Just buy a few boxes of whatever's cheap at fleet farm, and if you run into trouble buy another brand. You may want to look into aftermarket recoil springs for it. I've heard you can get different ones to help tune the gun to the ammo, but don't know much more about it than that.

I've had a couple m1s and never had a problem with target or duck loads. I've heard of people saying some of the real light loads won't cycle but I've fired many target loads (even one handed which is kinda like limp wristing). I'll bet you'll be fine with the typical factory loads.
Not exactly scientific data but they've never given me a reason to keep track.

The whole point of that action is to eat anything. My sbe can cycle trap loads all the way up to 3.5 goose loads without a hiccup. I think you will be fine.

The only loads my M1 won't cycle reliably are really light (powder puff) trap loads. If that's what you like to shoot, they make a lighter recoil spring.

My M1 Super 90 eats everything i throw at it. The only time I've ever had cycling issues with light loads, is the first 10 boxes or so, after i installed a +10% main spring.

My M1 will reliably cycle 2 3/4 DrEq 1 1/8 oz loads. I don't think it will cycle low recoil buck shot but will cycle standard buck shot for sure. I shoot Rio buck shot.
