I have a couple of 16" AR's the carbine upper shoots most brands of ammo (55GR) about the same point of impact, However the mid length shoot some loads 6 inches higher at 100 yds . Why??? :?

Sights are set different between the 2.

Different barrel different dynamics.

There are lots of things that can effect internal ballistics that can differ from barrel to barrel. Everything from how the chambers are cut, to the crown. The coatings and treatments inside can be different, so too can the rifling or twist rate. Dwell times also have an effect. Not to mention the trigger weight.

Short answer is the gas system probably isn't the difference producing the results you are seeing.
