Jumped into 300 BO

Postby Bearcatrp on Tue Jul 11, 2017 8:13 pm

After about a year pondering, picked up a 16 inch 300 BO upper from a member on this board. Won't be suppressed for now. Still trying to figure out a good all around grain of bullet. Some say 150 grain bullets are great, others say 125 grains. For those with a 300 BO, would like your recommendations for a good shtf/possibly hunting round. I reload my short barrel 308 with 168 a-max and 150 fmj bullets already. Been reading forums, watching different videos from folks giving reviews to get the jest of the caliber. This one in particular peaked my interest..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgKjbySsAik . Would appreciate any info you could share on the subject. Thanks

IMHO, 300BO is only useful suppressed so I only buy subsonic loads for mine.

Could you please explain the logic underlying that statement.

OP I've done test loads with 110gr seairra varmint and H110. Shot well out of my 10" ar15 pistol same with the hornady zombie ammo.

I think the barns 110gr tsx x-tac is top of the line (or close to) for 300Blk

I grab one of my Grendel's for anything supersonic. As I said, it's my opinion.

I've eaten a few deer that wouldn't agree with your opinion.

:D
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

Never said it won't kill. And it'll be just as dead.

What size barrel do you have? Have heard it both ways. Will run mine without a suppressor for now. Will check out those Barns bullets. I see allot of folks use it.

125gr Speer TNT's are my go-to budget bullets for Supersonic over H110. Anything over 200gr for subsonic with Aa1680.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

12" LaRue barrel, it's my go to HD rifle, crazy quiet always wears a can.

I'm not saying it's not good supersonic but I have better options for the AR15.

For a 7.5" short barrel AR you have better options than 300BO?

I have the 110gr Barnes Vortx loaded up in 6 mags as my home defense/shtf load out. At 2400fps, that pill leaves a nice wound track. And of course, if/when you get a can, the versatility can't be matched by any other intermediate cartridge.

I see some of you posted fps your getting with a particular bullet. Can the rest of you post what your getting? As for the heavy bullets, are you getting fast enough for expansion? Some day I will get a suppressor and would like to know the particulars of running suppressed. For you guys with suppressors, are you sharing between rifles or do they have there own? I almost ordered one but the 300 BO came up 1st. Once this is completely put together, then will save for one. Ordered my lower and parts today. Now to look for a red dot. Have an EOTECH on the 308AR but the vortex version is looking good.

Depending what you are hunting you could look at the Sierra 135gr HP Varminter. It was designed for the 300 blackout so you should have no problem getting appropriate expansion.

What barrel length are you getting 2400fps with?

I like the 125gr for SHTF/hunting, Hornady 125 SST or Speer TNT. I use the 147-150 gr. FMJ for plinking just because they are cheap and I have them on hand for .308 and 30-06.
