1st time shooting 1000 yards

Postby Bearcatrp on Mon Jul 17, 2017 4:52 pm

Thanks to a member on this board, got to finally shoot 1000 yards at GRRC today. My 338LM did great once dialed in with help from the spotter. 308 took a bit more but still banged steel. Wish we had a closer range around st cloud that offered 1000 yards. Will be filling out my application to GRRC for next year!

I am also a member of GRRC and if/when you'd like to go shoot there, I'd be glad to take you along. I still have to get qualified to shoot my 50 there, but that's just a formality, and shouldn't take long to do. Like Oldman, I'll help you any way I possibly can. Once his health is back, we can all go have fun.

I was thinking of donating a target to be near permanently mounted on berm behind 1000 yard range.

It would be one of ShootSteel's 15" 3/4" thick AR500.

Getting permission to permanently mount it could still be a concern.

I donated one to the Alliance Nebraska Rifle Club and it is used during our FCSA 50BMG sight-in on day before Match. Many new shooter show up having only shot 100 or 200 yards and need a good target for sight-in. Had one shooter in Michigan who asked me how to adjust his scope for 100 to 1000 yard distance. It was same as my Leupold Mark 4 8.5X25X50 so I spun in 24 MOA and told him to try it. His first shot was just beside a clay pigeon on berm at over 1000 yards. He and his daughter thought I was some Expert (didn't want to tell them the truth).
