Some barrel builders used to allow you to send them your bolt to ensure head spacing. Now the ones I order from no longer even do that. With a quality BCG and something like and Aero P upper, I would not be concerned.

Removing/installing the BCG is easy, but color me completely surprised that mixing and matching BCGs, without headspace concerns, is OK! Good to know I guess. I wouldn't have thought to do that.

Correct. That is part of what makes this platform so wonderful and allows the average Joe to be able to build an AR at their kitchen table.

Though a vise is helpful so maybe at the work bench rather than the kitchen table. :D

I ordered a build kit from Aero a few weeks ago and it was at my FFL in a week. Guessing you won't be waiting long.

What do I need to know about magazines? I am more interested in 5 and 10 round than higher capacity.

Also, any favorite sources for ammo?

I can Google but if someone has a source, I put great stock in more experienced shooters opinions.

Thank you for any thoughts.

I think E-Lander and CProducts are the only ones who make them. You are only going to find steel. I don't think the round fits in a polymer. Midway has a few in stock of the E-Lander but it's cheaper through LaRue. Odin has the CProducts. I'm sure they are available else where too.

Odin wins - 3-10rnd mags

LaRue makes no distinction on the size of the mags and are charging $18.xx no matter the capacity. I guess they know something I don't.

Ton's of opinions exist on this topic. Do a google search if you have many hours to burn.

My thoughts are clean first, take it shooting a bit, clean it right after and repeat as much as your heart desires. It will get broken in along the way.

I was squadded with Steve Satern from Satern Barrels a few years ago at the National Matches. His advice on break in was, "Just shoot the %@*^ thing!"
I will never apologize for being an American.
