Best 'smith for shortening and threading a Rem 700 ?

I bought a heavy barrel varmint Rem 700 in 308 from Cabelas last fall -dirt cheap, so thought I'd tweak it to death. (Magpul stock, etc) I'm thinking of shortening the barrel to 'scouterize' it (shorten, thread) and then throw on a brake. So I have two names- Odenthal and Kobe. Haven't checked with either, but thought I'd check reviews/suggestions here first. I'm also wondering if I'm not thinking of something or sacrificing by doing this (ballistics, etc). The barrel is right now 26" and I'm thinking at most 20", if not down to 18".

I had Ahlmans do several barrel threadings and protectors. They took 3 times longer, charged me 120+ dollars more than was quoted prior to dropping them off. I also asked for them to quote me a detachable box mag system option for one of my 308s...they never did. The quality of the work they did seems fine to me but for the price of about 120 a rifle (including ars) just for "basic" threading...I'd go elsewhere.

I have been pleased with this guy in Northern MN. No issues using silencers on barrels he's cut down and threaded. One pistol, one rifle.

+1 for Jim Kobe . Great guy and same for pricing plus always had quick turnaround. And no hidden fees.
