You see the title, bring on the opinions

Thinking about a build for this caliber and hearing others opinions on components is helpful to think though things. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Topics of interest include:

Barrel, length, twist, who's, and why.

BCG, tend to prefer NiBoron, who's and why. Have heard some are stronger than others.

Considering a side charger, not sure why, just don't have a side charging AR yet, so... Thoughts?

Muzzle device?

Most comfortable stock for a thumper

Any other .458 SOCOM opinion you might want to share

Whatever. To shoot large chunks of lead from an AR. Maybe hog hunting. Maybe for deer. Would like the option of suppressing it.

If not an SBR then 16” if you want to use a suppressor.

I was thinking 16 already. What twist are folks having good luck with and who's barrel would folks recommend?

Was considering a Wilson combat kit that includes, BCG, Bolt, Barrel, Muzzle devise, adj gas block, tube, and buffer spring. Anyone have experience with these?

Never heard anything bad about Wilson. Don’t know anything about .458 socom but thought it ran out of energy and a certain 6.5 quickly had more.

Oh, I know it can't hold a candle to the 6.5 Grendal, but what can? I mean we should just tell the dems to ban any gun they want as long as they leave us the Grendal as it is the perfect round.

Sorry, room in the world for multiple chambering's and I want to build SOCOM so that is why ;)

yukonjasper had his Grendel thread, BB had his 308-AR thread, Scratch is having an AR9 one, Amazi a Valkyrie. It's spring-time, and your AR can identify however it wants!

If money were no object, I would build a .458 SOCOM pistol upper

I was leaning between 458, the grendel, and the valkyrie. The guy at sheels told me it took normal ar mags for the valkyrie so i got it. He didnt know what he was talking about. If i could have gone back and made the choice again.... probably get 2 m1 garands haha.
Next year or so ill probably get a 6.5 or the 458.
Rock river arms would be my choice for the socom complete rifle.
6.5 I dont know, I kinda wanna get a and try a SBR.

You might want to chat with FJ540 he built a 458 about a year ago (maybe longer). I believe he even casts his own bullets for it. I know he did quite a bit of research for the build.

Yup, thank you. Read that. Even have shot FJs, part of why I have this build in my head :D.

The Saturn barrel with bolt and muzzle break at Brownells (currently out of stock) is a serious possibility.

Curious what the draw was for this caliber? It's a thumper, for sure.

10-4. Good luck with the build.
