Anyone near Woodbury want to donate or sell me like 1 or 2 barrel nut shims?
My barrel nut didn't come with enough of them and now I'm SOL until Monday night at least without them

Never used them. I just turn it to the next working position. How much torque you have on it?

If you need a shim at all, it should not be more than 1...................
maybe you need a new barrel nut or square the receiver face - barrel nuts are cheap....

Its an Aero BAR style, there's only 4 gas tube holes. The handguard bolts to the nut, so the holes in the nut only line up at 90° increments.

That’s a hell of a nut. How much have you torqued it and how far off is it?
I’ve gone up to 85 ft-lbs before on an AR. 30-80 is the spec range, no idea what your instructions say though.

The range is 30 to 45 for this one, and its no where close without a buch of shims to back it off. They just didn't supply enough of them.
Without shims its about 45°off. 45 ft lbs wouldn't do it.

Are you greasing it too? Anti seize? Looks like you only need about .005” shim for 45 degrees off. What do you have for shims?
https://aeroprecisionusa.com/media/docs/bar-barrel-nut-instructions.pdfEdit: reread the instructions and .005 above should be .008.

0.008"
I'm almost 90° off
Lots of grease

Have you marked it so that you know the un-shimmed gas tube hole isn’t over rotating the 12 o’clock position once shimmed?
Actually I see I misread the instructions. If you are off 45 degrees without shims .008 should put you right on, it’s the exact example in the link above.

Yes, I triple checked. Each 0.001" only backs the nut off a few degrees, and I'm almost 90°off. If I was closer without any shims, the 0.008" they give would have been enough.

Here's the difference between 0.002 and 0.004" of shims

Head to Napa, oreillys, AA...and see if they have any pinion shims that are about the same size.
