Diopter sight question

Postby MJY65 on Wed Nov 18, 2020 1:40 pm

I've been getting into airguns a bit more for indoor practice and am really enjoying it. Right now, I've got an Air Arms 510 set up with a scope, but have always wanted to try a biathlon style rifle. Those are set up with diopter sights, not scopes.

Is it even possible to shoot those sights properly with 55 year old eyes? I am nearsighted and have progressive lenses.

Possible yes, easy no.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Not only is it possible, but people your age and older do it regularly with great success. There is a combination of lenses that will work for nearly everyone, you just need to find it. The main thing to understand is that you shouldn’t expect to see a perfectly clear sight picture. I shoot a decent amount with aperture sights, and the target usually appears to me as a fuzzy gray-ish blob in the middle of the front aperture. That’s fine though, as long as I can keep it in the middle I can shoot reasonably well. I can almost guarantee that there are people with worse eyes than yours successfully shooting this type of sights.
