200-300yd Range

Postby noctorum on Sun Feb 08, 2009 1:34 am

I'm looking for a 200 to 300 yard rifle range within about an hour of Minneapolis. I know of quite a few but not ones that I'm specifically looking for. I'd like an outdoor covered range. I'm fine with a membership process as long as there's not a current waiting list (OGC :(). It needs to be open year round as well. Post up any ideas.

Caribou in Le Seuer has no waiting list that I am aware of, is about an hour south, outdoor and covered. The range is open to the public at $20 a day.

Faribault Rifle & Pistol Club (by Shieldsville) has a ranges to 600 yards. There is a covered shooting position that can shoot at berms to 400 yards I think. I shoot handguns mainly.

MN Horse and Hunt In Prior Lake is spendy.
Rainbow Sportsman in Cokato had the range but not covered.
Dakota County Gun Club has some covered spots, and of course the waiting list
Del Tone / Luth in St Cloud has 200yds.

Most of the ranges in MN do not have covered firing points like that of the longer ranges ie North Star, Gopher, Elk River are set up as XC ranges

MRC is hard to get into but they have electronic targets and 300M range from indoor shooting positions.

Thanks for posting this question, I was curious about the exact same thing...

Oakdale (OGC) does have a fairly long waiting list, but it is anywhere near where you are it is definitely worth getting on it. There is a decent amount of turnover in the membership every year, and another decent number of folks on the waiting list either don't reply or simply decline once they get their letter inviting them to join.

I haven't been to other ranges so can't compare them to OGC, I just know that OGC is nice & worth the wait, so get on the waiting list. Worst thing that can happen is you throw away your invite when it comes in the mail, right?

The 20 Rifle and Pistol Club near Owatonna (less than a mile from Cabela's - a definate plus :D ). $75 for a membership for the year - no discount for time-served; you don't have to do any. Everybody is a Range Officer. The 200 yard range is not covered, however.

If your question was directed towards me, you will have access all year except when the range is closed for events.

You didn't mention that part of the $105/yr is the post membership. If you're a PUFL member of the Legion, it drops your annual dues to $65 (plus tax) IIRC.

Like Rip said, you have to be either a member of the American Legion (vet) or the SAL (son of a vet). You have to transfer your membership to Post 435 (Richfield) - post membership is $40/year. If you're a PUFL (Paid Up For Life) legion member, you don't have to pay for your legion membership, so you only have to pay the gun club dues.
