I thought they use shotgun primers.
Because I care, I carry.

unless its a real oddball, like the Remington Ultimate muzzeloader, they use regular shotgun 209 primers. While some places sell "special" 209 primers for muzzleloaders, they are really somewhat lighter shotgun primers. I was told not to use hotter shotgun primers as they tend to decrease accuracy by starting the bullet down the barrel before the powder really ignites.

Use any american made 209 standard primer. Some of the foreign made ones have slightly smaller diameter (Fiocchi, Rio, and Cheddite come to mind). Don't use the CCI 209M.

He has a newer model that has a breach. Opens up like my O/O 12 gauge. First time I ever saw one like it but then again I don’t pay much attention to muzzle load. I will pass along the information. Thanks.

Then it is as stated above. 209 shotgun primer.
