Glock 34 question

Postby CarRacer on Wed Mar 13, 2013 10:07 pm

After enjoying the winter league this year at BPR and further refining my shooting goals and preferences, I think I'm going to start looking for a G34. I have a couple noob questions that I'd like your guy's thoughts on.

Gen 3 or Gen 4? I'd want to say 3 to avoid any questions of issues but I'm left handed so the mag release on the 4 is attractive. Availability of the model is a factor too, not sure which is more likely to be stocked. I know it's a huge can of worms but I only need the cliff notes version on which to choose.

This will be a paper puncher, I won't carry it, so anything I should do to it for that use? Sights and such are probably personal preference but am I overlooking anything?

Any questions I'm not asking that I should be about the G34?

Thanks for your input.

Get a Gen 4 G34, a Vogel trigger from Glocktriggers.com, and the Sevigny sights from Warren Tactical. All said and done you'll be at $800 and have a great gammer gun.

Right there except I have the edge trigger in mine. I plan on being at the next league night. Give me a days notice and show up around 1700 and you can try mine. Hell you can also try out the 35. 8-)

CarRacer, I'm in the same boat (except I'm not wrong handed). I can find Gen 3s pretty easily but in my opinion, the Gen 4s are perfect. The big fat mag release and texture are better than on the Gen 3s. The tough part is availability - I can't find any Gen 4s locally and GunBroker prices are crazy ($750 -$800 for a Glck?! Before shipping and transfer fee).

I second the Sevigny sights -- I have a set for the 34 at home anxiously awaiting a gun to be attached to.

Alright, so I'll start looking for a Gen 4. From the little poking around I did they're hard to find, as the anchorman says, so where do you think my best bet is to back order one? Thunderjohn, Arnzen, or?

Thanks.

FWIW, I haven't had much luck with the dealers on this particular forum. I've been searching all the local stores without much success, too. I finally just payed a premium for one on GunBroker. Sure, it was higher than MSRP but there was no sales tax so it wasn't too far off.

I'm on a waiting list at Arnzen. Call Andre and you can have my spot on line.

I'm cool with waiting, I have my FNP to shoot at league. I have zero 9mm anyway and no interest in joining that rat race for ammo. I put my name into Arnzen today and started putting out feelers. If I have to wait a month or two, that's ok.

Apireciste you offering up your spot and TH offering up a test drive of his. Very generous offers.

Just picked up a gen 4 34 today. Test fire date? Exactly 14 days ago. Not bad since it was a 3 day auction and took 3 days to get here. Shipped with the new beaver tail backstraps.

Nice. I really need to stop saying I'm going to wait for stuff because I also bought one today. It should arrive at Arnzen on Wednesday.

So you're going to pop the cherry your first shot, your first stage Thursday evening? That really is the only way to do it.

I wish. I get delayed, so that won't happen. I might do it the last night though, it'll prob take me that long to scrounge up a box of 9mm. I did that with my FNP at the last steel shoot, luckily I was able to blame the cold for my poor performance.

Holy crap. Arnzen must have some special mojo on their phone lines because for the first time ever I didn't get delayed. I will be breaking in the G34 while a timer looks on.

So where are people finding Gen 3's I have been looking for a long time and never seem to find one locally.

Let me know if anyone knows of any.
