Holster Wear

I carry, for the most part, a Kimber 1911. I have recently taken a close look at it and have noticed some (ok, quite a bit) of holster wear on the finish. This doesn't bother me at all. I figure it's all in a days work. I'm curious as to how others feel about it. I'm not talking about purchasing a new sidearm, I'm talking about ones you already have.

I like it on my guns if I'm putting the wear on it.

I try to keep ahead of the point and corner wear with cold blue. Stainless guns get scotchbrite or the like attention. I like patina on hunting guns but it strikes me as " I am no taking care of my gun" on my carry gun Stupid I know but its me.

I don't mind a little "character", but I seem drawn to guns that have very durable finishes.

My Warrior is getting a little light on the safety, but looks new otherwise, and I've been carrying it for at least part of almost every day since I got my permit in August of 08.

It's the same (for me) as a road-worn guitar. The wear is what gives it its mojo. Consider a nice Tele with a bit of finish missing on the back of the neck, some paint wear on the body from your forearm, and a light buckle rash. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Dead sexy.

My favorite 1911 has been Old Reliable since 1992..... always there, rock solid, comfortably worn,
never embarrassed by its well earned scars or letting its well traveled experience get in the way of performance...

A gun is a tool - PERIOD

A little wear and tear is like the old WWII Cooper A2 Bomber Jacket - new they look cheesy - but once worn a little the coolness factor gets jacked WAYYY up..

You should see the wear on my 1992 Issue G17.......I think that it is cool.

If it happens, it happens. If I was that concerned I wouldn't be carrying that particular pistol to begin with.

Like Kilogulf said, I don't carry my collectible handguns. Just Bersa .45 & .380. Once in a while I carry a CZ -82 or the LCP in my pocket.

Strad--you should be pleased that you have owned the same gun long enough for it to show some wear
